Why the Sphinx was not demolished when the Muslims entered Egypt ?

Why the Sphinx was not demolished when the Muslims entered Egypt ? – Explained by Shaykh Salih Fawzan

Print Friendly
Question:
May Allah grant you good O noble Shaykh. What was the position of the Companions during the time of Umar—may Allah be pleased with them—concerning the statues and monuments present in Egypt during this present time?
Shaykh Fawzan:
Initially these objects were not worshipped, they were merely ruins, the tombs of the Pharaohs; they were not idols. These tombs of the Pharaohs were built upon their graves. Thus this was a matter of construction over the tombs, they were not worshipped.
Also removing them is very difficult. The Companions did not have the ability to remove the Sphinx, it is a mountain; they did not have the ability to do this.
Also there are those who say during the era of the Companions it was buried and covered with sand, and it was not visible.
Smashing statues is clear in the Book of Allah the Exalted. Ibrahim peace be upon him smashed the idols and the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him—when he conquered Mecca—smashed the idols which were inside the Kaabah and those outside of Mecca.
Destroying idols is obligatory upon the Muslims if they have the ability, if they are able to do this. Also this issue is not restricted to statues, it also relates to the structures over graves; the shrines which are now being worshipped instead of Allah. They come first, and they are destroyed. This is based upon the statement of the Prophet peace be upon him:
لاَ تَدَعَ قَبْرًا مُشْرِفًا إِلاَّ سَوَّيْتَهُ
Do not leave any grave elevated without leveling it. (Collected by Tirmidi 1049)
Thus do not limit it to only destroying statues, rather statues are destroyed and graves are destroyed also. Remove the structures which have lamps and writings on them and make the graves ordinary such that they do not draw attention. As for destroying the statues while the shrines remain, this is inadequate and does not meet the required objective. This does not meet the required goal.

Using euthanasia to end suffering

Fatwas

Using euthanasia to end suffering

Fatwa no. 19165
Q: I am requesting a Fatwa (legal opinion issued by a qualified Muslim scholar) in regard to a subject that was discussed on a medical program that I listened to. The subject was: Is it permissible for a patient who has no hope in recovering to request to die and should their request be fulfilled to end their suffering? The speaker said that if a cancer patient, for example, has no hope of recovery it is better for them to die. Is it permissible to fulfill a patient’s wish and kill them to end their continual pain? The speaker mentioned a book called, “Al-Huquq (Rights)”, and said that it is a human right to decide when their life should end, if their life has become a source of pain and suffering to them and others. What is the opinion of Islam on this matter? May Allah reward you with the best!
A: It is Haram (prohibited) for a patient to hasten their death, whether by committing suicide or by taking medication to kill themselves. It is also Haram for a doctor or nurse, or any other person to carry out the patient’s request, even if their disease is incurable. If anyone assists in this, they have shared in the sin, because they have intentionally killed a human, whose life is protected by Shari‘ah (Islamic law), without a right. There are clear Nas (Islamic texts from the Qur’an or the Sunnah) prohibiting the killing of a human being without a right. Allah (Exalted be He) says (what means): ...and kill not anyone whom Allâh has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islâmic law).
(Part No. 25; Page No. 86)
Allah (Exalted be He) also says: And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allâh is Most Merciful to you. And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Fire, and that is easy for Allâh.
Also, it was authentically reported on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Anyone who kills themselves with a piece of iron (a weapon) will have that piece of iron in their hand and will be stabbing their stomach with it in the Fire of Hell forever, abiding eternally therein. Anyone who drinks poison and kills themselves will be drinking it in the Fire of Hell forever, abiding eternally therein. And anyone who throws themselves from (the top of) a mountain and kills themselves will be throwing themselves down in the Fire of Hell for forever, abiding eternally therein. (Agreed upon by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
It was also related on the authority of Abu Qilabah on the authority of Thabit ibn Al-Dahhak (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Anyone who kills themselves with something, will be punished with it on the Day of Resurrection. (Related by Al-Jama‘ah [the Six Hadith Compilers: Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Al-Tirmidhy, Al-Nasa’y, and Ibn Majah]) Also, on the authority of Jundub ibn ‘Abdullah Al-Bajaly (may Allah be pleased with him) who reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Amongst those who came before you there was a wounded man who grew impatient.
(Part No. 25; Page No. 87)
So, he took a knife and cut his hand with it. The blood did not stop flowing until he died. Allah (may He be Exalted) said, ‘My slave hastened to bring about his demise; I have forbidden Paradise to him.’
(Agreed upon by Al-Bukhari and Muslim; this is the wording of Al-Bukhari)
Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade people to wish for death to put an end to their suffering. In a Hadith reported by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: None of you should wish for death because of a calamity which has befallen them; but if it is unavoidable to do so, let them say, ‘O Allah, make me live as long as life is better for me and make me die if death is better for me.’ (Related by Al-Bukhari and Muslim;this is the wording of Al-Bukhari) Al-Bukhari also narrated this Hadith with a different wording on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: None of you should wish for death: if they are a good-doer, perhaps they may increase in goodness, and if they are an evil-doer, perhaps they may repent.
As it is forbidden for a person to merely wish for death or to ask Allah for this, committing suicide or assisting in it is considered a violation of Allah’s Laws and a transgression of the sacred Boundaries set by Allah. Doing this is inconsistent with being patient with what is decreed by Allah.
(Part No. 25; Page No. 88)
It challenges Allah’s Divine Decree and Predestination, and shows dissatisfaction with Allah’s Wisdom of testing His servants with evil and with good as trial for them; Allah (Exalted be He) says: ...and We shall make a trial of you with evil and with good. Allah may try and afflict some of His servants with illness and He is the All-Wise in what He does and the All-Knowing of what is best for His servants, as this may bring goodness for a servant, increase their Hasanat (rewardable good deeds), the strength of their faith, and get them closer to Allah (Glorified be He) through their resignation (to His Will), entreaties, submission, Tawakkul (putting one’s trust in Allah), and supplications to Him. If someone is afflicted with an illness, they should hope for Allah’s Reward and bear with patience their affliction. Showing patience over affliction can gain Allah’s Good Pleasure and increase heavenly reward and elevate to a high degree in the Hereafter. This is supported by the Hadith reported from Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: I am amazed at the matters relating to a believer! All matters relating to a believer are good, and that only applies to a believer. If something good happens to them and they give thanks for it, that is good for them; and if something bad happens to them and they bear it with patience, that is good for them. (Related by Imam Muslim in his Sahih [Book of Authentic Hadith] and by Imam Ahmad in Al-Musnad [Hadith compilation]; this is the wording of Imam Ahmad)
Allah (Exalted be He) says: ...and As-Sabirûn [who patiently bear whatever may befall them (of calamities)]
(Part No. 25; Page No. 89)
He (Exalted be He) also says: ...but give glad tidings to As-Sâbirûn (the patient). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allâh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." And: ...the men and the women who are patient (in performing all the duties which Allâh has ordered and in abstaining from all that Allâh has forbidden) up to: Allâh has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise). Also, the Hadith on the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Verily, greatness of reward is with greatness of trial. Indeed, when Allah loves a people, He tries them (by affliction). Whoever is content (with Allah’s Decree) will win His Good Pleasure, and whoever is discontent (with Allah’s Decree) will earn His Wrath. (Related by Imam Al-Tirmidhy in "Jami‘ Al-Tirmidhy" and he said that it is a Hadith Hasan Gharib [a good Hadith that is strange to come from this chain of narration])
It was also narrated that Mus‘ab ibn Sa‘d on the authority of his father (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Which people are most sorely tested?' He (peace be upon him) said, 'The prophets, then those who are similar and then those who are similar. A person will be tested in accordance with their Din (faith), if their Din is solid, they will be tested severely, and if their Din is flimsy, they will be tested in accordance with their Din. Calamity will keep troubling a servant until it leaves them to walk on the earth with no sins.' (Related by Al-Tirmidhy, who said that this Hadith is Hasan Sahih [a good authentic Hadith])
(Part No. 25; Page No. 90)
It was also narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Adversity will continue afflicting the believing man and the believing woman in his (her) self, children, and property until he meets Allah sinless. (Related by Al-Tirmidhy)
Subsequently, it is Haram for a person suffering from some kind of illness to seek to kill themselves, because a person’s life is not their own; rather, it is owned by Allah Who decreed fates and times of death. Every person’s deeds come to an end by their death; therefore, the life that a believer lives gives them hope of good. Perhaps they make Tawbah (repentance to Allah) for the sins they have committed and increase their good deeds, such as Salah (Prayer), Sawm (Fasting), Zakah (obligatory charity), Hajj, Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah), Du‘a’ (supplication) to Allah (Glorified be He), and so Allah elevates them to the highest ranks (of the righteous in Paradise). Moreover, a sick person continues to have rewards recorded for whatever good deeds they used to perform at the time they were healthy, as authentically reported in the Hadith Sahih (a Hadith that has been transmitted by people known for their uprightness and exactitude; free from eccentricity and blemish).
As for those doctors and others who agree with fulfilling the request of a sick person to kill themselves or assist them in this, they are committing a sin by doing so. Their view is limited and it shows their ignorance.
(Part No. 25; Page No. 91)
They regard human life and its continuation from the aspect of having animalistic power, authority, fun, and vanity. They do not see it as a life where servants can live connected to their Lord, taking provisions of good deeds (for the afterlife journey). Their hearts have mellowed; have felt humility and peace, and are making prayers to Allah (may He be Exalted and Praised), which will make the servants the dearest and closest they can ever be to Allah, unlike those who act haughtily and oppressively, and use their animalistic power to commit what displeases Allah (Exalted be He). Moreover, Allah is Able to grant recuperation and what may seem impossible to people today may be treatable tomorrow, by the Power of Allah, for Whom nothing is impossible on this earth or in the heavens.
May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!

Severe Warning Against Wedding Pictures and Video Tapes – Shaykh Uthaymeen

A Severe Warning Against Wedding Pictures and Video Tapes – Shaykh Uthaymeen

 A warning from Shaykh Uthaymeen
O slaves of Allah verily we have been plagued for some time now by a great tribulation done by some people whom Allah has favored with marriage. And this is their taking pictures of the wedding party; pictures with the camera and perhaps with tapes which can be placed in the television and these are the video tapes. This is the affliction which we have been plagued with. And I do not know the intent of these people.
Do they do this in order to increase the love between the husband and his wife? Or do they do this because that is more pleasing to the wife from the husband? Or do they do this to announce the wedding? Or do they do this because it draws them closer to Allah the Exalted? Or do they do this because it is ingratitude to Allah for this favor?
None of these worldly and religious benefits are obtained by way of this reprehensible impermissible action. Rather the only thing that is obtained from this is exposing their disobedience to Allah the Exalted, and removing the veil of shyness from the husband and the wife, and from the community of women.
These pictures which are taken will be exposed for the onlookers anytime they want to look at them. Does it please you to expose your women in front of the immoral people? Does it please you to expose your women in front of the people every time someone wants to show your sister’s face, or your daughter’s face, or your wife’s face? Does that please you O believers?
Do you have jealousy? Do you have belief in Allah? Do you fear Allah’s punishment? Do you not fear that the favor that was sent upon you will be changed into a punishment? Do you not fear the Creator of the earth and the heavens? Are you not afraid that you will be united with the enemies of Allah from the disbelievers and those who resemble them? Because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم  said:
مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ
Whoever resembles a people then he is from them.
Are you pleased for the husband and wife to be punished through hatred and animosity between the two of them until the family bond dissolves? All of these affairs are possible to occur even if we are given respite while opening disobeying our Lord. This is only respite from Allah the Exalted. (And the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم  said:)
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَيُمْلِي لِلظَّالِمِ ، حَتَّى إِذَا أَخَذَهُ لَمْ يُفْلِتْهُ
Verily Allah grants the oppressor respite until He seizes him He does not release him.
And the Messenger of Allah
And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe. (Soorah Hud 11:102)
O people think, and use your intelligence concerning this affair. What is the result, what are its benefits, what are its harms? Verily Allah has given you intellects He did not make you like animals who do not know what is being done to them. They are driven to their place of slaughter and it goes submissively, and it is taken to pasture so it goes submissively.
You have intellects, with your intellects you perceive that which is beneficial and that which is harmful. And Allah has perfected His favor upon you by sending down upon you His Book and by what He revealed to His Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. This affair is horrid. This affair is known by the legislation, known by the intellect, perceived by the senses. It is not hidden from anyone except the one whom Allah has erased away the light of his insight and diminished the jealous from his heart and decreased the religion from his heart.
O Muslims, O you who have jealousy, reflect upon this affair which your scholars have prohibited you from. Do not allow this blessing to sweep you into an abyss. This affair is evil, this affair is haram, and this affair is a prelude to corruption, this affair gradually leads to haram enjoyment and pleasure. Because everyone who takes these pictures whether on video tapes or by camera, he is able to look and enjoy these pictures anytime he wants to look at them.
This issue is very clear. But where are those designated guardians those who have direct responsibility over these women. And where are the guardians over the general affairs, those who have the ability to discipline those who do this with a discipline that will act as a deterrent for them and others. It is upon us to be strong in the religion of Allah. And it is upon us to not be concerned with anyone other than Allah the Exalted. And it is upon us to establish the limits of Allah. And verily I swear that whoever establishes the limits of Allah, for the sake of Allah, according to what the laws of Allah requires then Allah will assist him against all of his enemies.
O believers, O designated guardians, O general guardians, verily it is upon us all to come together to eliminate this evil corrupt phenomenon. By Allah this corruption is not a light matter even if some of the people take it lightly. Enjoying the wedding only occurs by showing gratitude for the blessings of Allah and establishing the ordinances that the legislation allows and not going beyond them or exceeded the limits of Allah or His laws.
Allah the Exalted said:
And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the Messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning.”
Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep?
Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play?
Did they then feel secure against the plan of Allah? None feels secure from the plan of Allah except the people who are the losers. (Soorah Al A’raf: 7:96-99)
Verily it is upon us, the believers; a responsibility. We are not like those who disbelieve, and enjoy themselves and eat as cattle eat, while the fire is their destination. Verily it is upon us believers, those who thank Allah for favoring us with Imaan, there is a great responsibility upon us that we implement the laws of Allah. This is the freedom that is beneficial freedom not unrestricted freedom at the expense of others.

Benefit: Advice of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Haadee to one who Tried to Take His Picture During a Class

Benefit: Advice of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Haadee to one who Tried to Take His Picture During a Class

What are you doing, Akhee? O our brother…I do not know, what do you benefit from At-Tasweer (picture taking) and taking it (the picture) with you. Na’am; Allaah is Beseeched for Help. (People) are put to trial with this Tasweer. The Fitnah of it increased when the means for it became easily accessible and it came to be within these cellular phones. Before, a person with be somewhat ashamed to carry a camera to the Masaajid. Now, it came to be within these phones so they dared to venture into this prohibited Tasweer which the Prophet ﷺ cursed the one who does it. So the people are in need of being reminded and clarification that At-Tasweer in from the MAJOR SINS; because the Prophet ﷺ cursed the picture maker, as is within the Saheeh. What could one want, beyond this explicit text? I wish I knew, what does the one who errs (in this regard) say about this authentic and explicit Hadeeth? There has preceded with us the speech of the scholars and we have mentioned it numerous times; that the authentic and explicit texts which do not have an abrogating (text) nor is there anything to contradict them, obligate that one be stern in repudiation of the one who opposes them. Not just repudiation; but sternness in doing so. This is because these texts are explicit, and do not leave room for interpretation. So as it relates to Tasweer, O assembly of brothers, if you see something from it—may Allaah reward you with good—then alert (the people) for many of them are ignorant; they are not aware of the texts and they don’t know them. Alert them and clarify to them the severe threat. And the reason for laxity regarding it now is these means which have become easy within the hands of the elders as well as the youth; even the children. So it has become easy to take pictures by way of them. We ask Allaah for safety and security.

Giving and Accepting Christmas Gifts - Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen

Giving and Accepting Christmas Gifts - Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen

The Christians’ celebrating the ‘Eid of the birth of ‘Eesaa, upon him be peace, is for them. However, it is not permissible for the Muslim to participate in their holidays. They are not to give them gifts at the time of their holidays nor is it befitting to accept their gifts from them at the time of their holidays. Nor is it permissible to sell them anything which will aid them in the celebration of their holidays; all of this is incorrect. This is because it entails being pleased with that which they are upon if the person were to do so. And being pleased with Kufr and the holidays of the disbelievers is prohibited for the Muslims.

How could a Muslim celebrate Christmas and New Year’s? – By Shaykh Uthaymeen

How could a Muslim celebrate Christmas and New Year’s? – By Shaykh Uthaymeen

Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) :
Then what is worse than that; is some Muslims celebrate the New Year, and they glorify it and venerate it, and it is connected to the religious occasion of the Christians; which is; what? The birthday of the Messiah Eesa ibn Maryam peace be upon him. Thus celebrating New Year’s Eve, yes, in relation with the birth of the Messiah; this is rejoicing with their religious rites and practices. And rejoicing with kufr practices—if the person who is pleased with this is safe from disbelief—then it is as ibn Al Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him said in his book, ‘the ruling on the dhimmi’ it is more severe than being pleased with drinking alcohol and worshiping the cross.
Thus the affair is very dangerous O brothers. It is not permissible for the person to celebrate Christmas; if he is a Muslim. And it is not permissible for him to congratulate them for this holiday; if he is a Muslim. And it is not permissible for him to respond to this greeting if they congratulate him for this holiday; if he is a Muslim.
Subhan’Allah! Shall we congratulate them for a holiday which is considered as a religious practice? And is this anything other than being pleased with disbelief? But most of those who congratulate them do not intend to exalt their religion or practices, but rather they only intend what; to be courteous. And this is incorrect.
If someone says; I am courteous to them because they are courteous to me and they congratulate me for Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. We say: Alhamdulillah. If they congratulate you with Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr, then they have congratulated you for legislated holiday, which Allah has made for His slaves. And it is mandatory for Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr to be their holidays, because it is obligatory upon them to accept Islam. But if you congratulate them for Christmas then you are congratulating them for a holiday which Allah has not designated as a holiday.
Thus Christmas has no basis in history and it has no basis in the religious legislation. Eesa ibn Maryam did not command them to establish this holiday. Thus it is either that, which was entered into the religion of the Messiah as innovation and misguidance, or it was prescribed in the legislation of Eesa ibn Maryam but it has been abrogated by the legislation of Islam. Therefore it has no basis by any estimation. Because if we said it is from the innovation of the Christians and it is not from their legislation; then it is misguidance. And if we said it is from their legislation, then it has been abrogated; and to worship Allah with an abrogated religion is misguidance; thus it is misguidance by any estimation. And because it is misguidance, how is it befitting for me—while I am a Muslim—to congratulate them for it?!
And we have answered the issue of them congratulating us for our Eid and us not congratulating them for their holiday because our Eid has been legislated by Allah the Exalted; while their holiday is not legislated. This is because it has either been fabricated in their legislation or abrogated by our legislation.  Thus it has no basis in any regard.

Shaykh Fawzan & Al-’Abbaad on Pirated Software

Questioner: Here’s another question from Algeria, the brother says, ‘I work with pirated software whose owner is a Christian [i.e., the original software is owned/produced by a Christian], I work copying CD’s, even though they do not permit them to be copied, but we copy them [anyway] and then use them for seeking knowledge?’
Al-Fawzaan:  This is not allowed, this is from their rights and it is not allowed for us to transgress against them and it is not allowed for us to take their wealth, it is not allowed for us to transgress against them, saying [as a justification], ‘They are Christians.’  No.  This is deception. These are their rights and we do not take them away, so long as they prohibit it, these are their rights and we do not encroach upon them saying [as a justification], ‘This is part of da’wah,’ this is not from da’wah—this is a defamation of theda’wah, Islaam forbids this, [Islaam forbids] committing aggression against people’s property, and their rights, even if they are non-Muslims.
Questioner: Some people buy a computer program, crack it, and then copy it and sell it for a cheap price, bearing in mind the original copy is sold at expensive rates, is this allowed?
Al-’Abbaad: One must guard the rights of people and not infringe upon them, if he himself were the person in this situation would he agree for this to be done for him [i.e., if the person making the copies were the actual owner/producer of the original]? It’s known he wouldn’t.  And the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said in a hadith reported by ’Abdullah ibn ’Amr ibn al-’Aas inSahih Muslim, and this is part of a long hadith, “Whoever would like to be delivered from Hell and enter Paradise, let him die believing in Allaah and the Last Day, and let him treat people as he would like to be treated,” [The Book of Leadership, no. 4776] ya’ni, he deals with people as he would like for them to deal with him.

a List of 64 Major Sins from the Poem...

This is a list of major sins taken from the poem: منظومة الكبائر للحجاوي
Explained by Shaykh Abdur Razzaq Al-Badr, son of Shaykh Muhsin Al-Abbad.

Shaykh Stressed a lot in these lessons and also in other lessons of his that we all should take out time to study the major sins because the sins and transgressions have increased a lot. Shaykh said we should learn so we can avoid these sins and be warned of them. Additionally, he said that our scholars and imams have authored books listing major sins so one can learn about them to avoid them.

Why it is important to learn about the major sins?
The Answer is very simple: You always read hadith that tells you, “if you do such and such, all your sins are forgiven (minor sins, NOT major sins).” After reading such hadith, don’t you wonder what are the major sins and what are the minor sins? Don’t you wish that you are free of major sins and that you are of those whose all sins are forgiven? However, if you do not know what are the major sins, then how do you know if you are free of doing major sins or not?

Shaykh Abdur Razzaq says a statement in many of his lessons that is: If you do not know what you should fear, then how would you fear what you are supposed to fear? In order to fear something, you need have good amount of knowledge about the matter.

So here for you i list out the major sins, and i hope you find some benefits in this in shaa Allah.
LINK: http://www.scribd.com/doc/121909934/List-of-64-Major-Sins
You will find some sins that you perhaps never thought they were major sins... in shaa Allah.
