Sawm on the Day of ‘Ashura’

Sawm on the Day of ‘Ashura’

Fatwa no. 10962
Q: What is obligatory for a Muslim to do on the Day of ‘Ashura’ (10th of Muharram)? Should they pay Zakat-ul-Fitr (obligatory charity paid before the Festival of Breaking the Fast) on that day?
A: It is prescribed for a Muslim to observe Sawm (Fasting) on the Day of ‘Ashura’, as it was authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered his Sahabah (Companions) to observe Sawm on that day. However, when the Sawm of Ramadan was enjoined, it became permissible either to fast or not to fast on the Day of ‘Ashura’. No Zakat-ul-Fitr is to be paid on the Day of ‘Ashura’ as due on ‘Eid-ul-Fitr (the Festival of Breaking the Fast) after the month of Ramadan.
May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!

Friday Prayer, It’s Virtues, Rulings, etc

Bismillah Assalamualikum warahma tullahiwabaraka tuhu

Because my dear near lovely sisters wanted to know about Friday and why we have friday prayer etc, i have gathered for them what i could at this moment, and i hope it would be MORE than enough inshaaAllah.

So # 1: http://ar.scribd.com/doc/113481192/Friday-Prayer - from the book of Shaykh Saleh al-Fawzan called: A Summary of Islamic Jurisprudence (Vol 1) - PDF of the books are found HERE
     # 2: http://ar.scribd.com/doc/113484702/Friday-Prayer-Chap-Bulug-Al-Maram - This is one of the hadith book by Imam Ibn Hajr where he gathers hadith from major six books of hadith [Bukhari, Muslim, an-nasaee, Tirmidhi, Sunan Abi Dawud, and sunan ibn majah] in terms of the fiqh topics, book is called: Bulugh al-maram. [MSO library has this book, so if you want, borrow it from the library and benefit inshaaAllah.]

And now one beneficial point to remember

if someone asks you as to why we have friday as a day to pray specifically, then
# 1 Answer is: Allah has chosen this for us an honor to us to worship Him. Allah ordered us to do it and thus we follow and comply that's it.

Because Islam means submission in literal sense of this single word in Arabic to English translation, and Muslim is one who submits and surrenders to the Will of Allah.
Therefore, our response always with the orders of Allah is: We hear and we obey, not like the JEWS who said, we hear and disobey.

The companions of the Prophets sallallahu alayhe wa sallam were like this. Alhamdulillah.

However, there are wisdoms and benefits that Allah and His Messengers informed us and we are happy to know them, if there was none, then we say, we hear and we obey because our belief is that Allah is MOST WISE thus out of His infinite Wisdom He ordered the matter for us, and we believe and submit to that.

I am sure you will agree with me, that how many trails that hit us, if we know nothing about the benefits and harms of them at the on going moments, then certainly we come to know many benefits and harms after the trail was lifted from us. alhamdulillah. You can think and ponder on this and you will know the reality better.

Jazakumul Allahu khayran.
wassalamualikum.

Closing the eyes during Salah

Fatwas of the Permanent Committee>Group 2>Volume 5: Fiqh – Salah 1>Disliked acts during Salah>Closing the eyes during Salah

The first question of Fatwa no. 14283
Q 1: It is an act of Sunnah (acts, sayings or approvals of the Prophet) to look at the place of Sujud (prostration) during Salah (Prayer). But, when I offer Salah behind an Imam (the one who leads congregational Prayer) and close my eyes, I feel more Khushu` (the heart being submissively attuned to the act of worship) and reverence.
(Part No. 5; Page No. 379)
Closing my eyes helps me ponder the meanings of the Ayahs (Qur'anic verses) which the Imam recites, the relation between these Ayahs and the universe, and what it contains of miracles that assure the Power and Might of Allah. But when I open my eyes to look at the place of Sujud as the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered us to do, I become afflicted with Waswasah (Insinuating or obsessive thoughts instigated by Satan). What is the ruling on this?
A: During Salah, it is prescribed that the Muslim should look at the place of Sujud and not close their eyes; for they are engaged in an act of worship in which they speak privately to their Lord and ask Him His Mercy. ImamMuslim and others related that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Let the people who lift their sights towards heaven during Salah desist, or else their sights will be taken away.” Also, Al-Bukhari and Muslimnarrated that The Prophet (peace be upon him) offered Salah wearing a Khamisa (a marked woolen garment) with marks on it. Thereupon, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The marks on it diverted my attention, take this (Khamisa) to Abu Jahm and bring an Inbijaniyah (unmarked garment) (from him).” If it was permissible for a person to close their eyes, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would have closed his eyes to avoid being occupied by the marks of the garment. Therefore, you should look at the place of Sujud and try to ponder the recitation and supplications, and to suppress the insinuations of Satan.
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

Ruling on closing one's eyes in Salah
Q: What is the ruling on closing one's eyes while offering Salah (Prayer)? In fact, I keep my eyes closed while performing Salah in order not to look here and there and thus be distracted from Salah.
A: Closing one's eyes while performing Salah is Makruh (reprehensible) and is not a Sunnah (action following the teachings of the Prophet). The Sunnah is to keep one's eyes open and not to close them unless needed, in which case there will be nothing wrong with it. The proper practice is that one should lower one's gaze and look at the place of Sujud (prostration) so that one might reach the stage of Khushu` (the heart being submissively attuned to the act of worship). Actually, the Sunnah is to behave as such. Closing one's eyes is not Mashru` (Islamically prescribed) being Makruh or even, according to some scholars, an act of the Jews.
Q: While offering Salah, I close my eyes, which makes me concentrate more. Seeing me do so, a friend of mine told me that this is impermissible and Salah as such is invalid. Your Eminence Shaykh, what is your opinion?

(Part No. 9; Page No. 230)
A: Closing one' eyes while offering Salah is viewed by scholars to be Makruh. Nevertheless, it does not affect the validity of Salah. In this regard, there is nothing wrong with closing one's eye, which is even viewed by some scholars to be permissible in case it is more likely to lead to Khushu`. However, the more correct view is that you should not close your eyes while offering Salah, an act that is viewed by some scholars to be practiced by the Jews while offering their prayer. To sum up, it is better for you not to close your eyes at all and to try to reach Khushu` without closing your eyes. Actually, this is more preferable to be on the safe side. Either way, your Salah is valid even if you close your eyes, for opening one's eyes is not a condition for the validity of Salah.
Q: While offering Salah, I can only concentrate when I close my eyes, which helps me not to think about worldly affairs. Although I seek refuge with Allah at the beginning of my Salah, I still get distracted, which makes me feel sad. What is your opinion on closing one's eyes?
A: You should do your best to be mindful of your Salah and supplicate to Allah (Exalted be He) to help you do so. Moreover, remember that you are standing before Allah and that He (Glorified and Exalted be He) sees you. In fact, a believer who stands for Salah should know that Allah is watching over him and should be mindful of
(Part No. 9; Page No. 231)
Allah's Greatness (Glorified and Exalted be He). Thus, you should pay much attention to this matter, exerting effort to remember that you are standing before Allah and that Allah directs His Face toward His Servants who offer Salah. So, you have to do your best to be mindful and reach the state of Khushu` without closing your eyes. In fact, closing the eyes is Makruh and thus it is more preferable not to do it. Moreover, some scholars hold that it is an act of the Jews and it is better not to do it. However, you should look at your place of Sujud, show submission to Allah, and remember His Greatness and that you are standing before Him doing your best in this regard and hoping for the best.
Q: I feel that closing my eyes while offering Salah causes me to be more mindful. Is it permissible for me to do so while offering Salah? Guide me, may Allah reward you with the best.
A: It is better not to close ytour eyes. You should accustom yourself not to close your eyes doing your best to be mindful.
Q: Is it permissible for me to close my eyes while offering Salah, bearing in mind that I am more mindful when I close my eyes?
A: It is better not to close your eyes. In fact, some scholars are of the opinion that doing so is Makruh.
(Part No. 9; Page No. 232)
Accordingly, it is preferable not to close your eyes. However, there is nothing wrong with closing your eyes, and doing so does not invalidate Salah. As we stated earlier, a group of scholars view it to be Makruh and, thus, it is preferable not to close your eyes. Al-hamdu lillah (All praise is due to Allah).
Q: While offering Salah, I close my eyes. Is this correct?
A: It is preferable not to close your eyes. However, some scholars hold the view that closing the eyes is unobjectionable if it leads to a better state of Khushu`. Nevertheless, the majority of scholars are of the opinion that the Sunnah is to open the eyes while doing one's best to concentrate and be mindful while standing before Allah (Exalted be He).

Anger of Allah & Iconoclasm (A Non-Muslim’s Effort toward Spread of Islam)

Anger of Allah & Iconoclasm (A Non-Muslim’s Effort toward Spread of Islam)

It has been a while since i have been thinking of sharing the below message, I just needed right set of mind to write the topic out so it benefits those Allah wills, may He make me and us amongst them. ameen.
As you know i am enrolled into college again and taking classes, so one of my class is: Art History, a class i had to take due to the change of my major to Education. It is not that bad of a class as i expected Alhamdulillah. The happiest moment of my life in that class was when my teacher was introducing Islam and Islamic Art to the class. She is a non-Muslim, but her speech was brilliant about Islam, which showed that she was knowledgeable about Islam and that knowledge was free of misconceptions spread over media (as far my understanding).
We ware finishing up the history of Byzantine Art, my teacher was saying, there was a belief in the Christian of Byzantine empire, that is when they saw someone upon a lot of good, comfort, and improvement, they believed the person was loved by Allah. On the other hand, if they saw the person going through hardships, they believed Allah was angry with the person. After mentioning this, my teacher was saying, there was a group that was gaining a lot of power, and they used NO images to spread their belief (unlike the Christians), this increase of power of this group that used NO IMAGES scared the Christians of Byzantine empire, according to their belief mentioned above, they believed Allah was angry with them and was pleased with the group that was gaining power that used no images to spread its belief.
After mentioning the group without using any names, my teacher asked, who were those group of people?someone raised hands and said, Islam. and my teacher said, YES.
She then continued saying, the Byzantine empire Christians were so scared seeing the constant spread of Islam and gaining of power without the use of image that they ORDERED for the DESTRUCTION OF ALL THE IMAGES THEY HAD CREATED (as they believed GOD was ANGRY with them), it was a command and they carried out this task without hesitant rather with diligence, they completely destroyed images and status in market places etc.
Then my teacher puts on the map of Islam’s spread on the board (through powerpoint projection), and says, Islam started as a small group of people and it spread to such and such distance in less than 100 years, this short amount of time for such large scale of spread of Islam around the world was UNPRECEDENTED in the HISTORY.
and the destruction of images by Byzantine empire was termed as ICONOCLASM. after 2 centuries or so later, Some christians found excuse for themselves to use images again, that is people are ignorant, they cannot read so they use images to relate stories of bible to teach them… [as for Muslims, people! Muslims are educated from the first to the last inshaaAllah, our Salaf were Memorizers people! they could not perhaps read or write, but they were brilliant memorizers, blessings of Allah, count them. Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akhbar.]
WALLAHI! MY TEACHER SAID ALL THESE IN BETTER WORDS, as she introduced Islam to the class, my whole body was shaking with joy, a joy of current went through my body, i was happier than ever. I sat silently and listened, and if she asked, i kept quiet to hear what other students may say in response. [her speech was a dawah to ISlam, she aided islam with her exceptional presentation of ISlam, that she did not do for any other time periods or people alhamdulillah, a class filled with mostly non-muslims]
NOW THE LESSON TO LEARN FROM THIS for US:
—————————————————————————–
-> Accept and Submit O Muslims! Images are prohibited In Islam, the NON-Muslims Know it better than you. Islam Spread around the globe by the manners of the traders after the blessings of Allah then efforts of the righteous salafNOT IMAGES, LOOK how non-Muslims took lesson from this and destroyed their own images. Ya Allah! is there any better lesson than this for us Muslims! When will we wake up from our heedlessness Ya Rabbi!
In my writing for Humanity class, we were shown a video where it shows how images developed in early civilization, the non-Muslim man said it clearly, loudly in front of the world, Islam prohibits all animated images strictly,(he said it in better words, i just conveyed the meaning), and this video where this man said this, is shown in classes where majority of the people including the teacher are non-Muslims. what the man said further was this that they brought a turkish old muslim man to see a horse image and told him it is the image of a horse, the old muslim man could not believe it, he never saw images before in his life, he was trying to go around to see the horse (that is in the image, which was not possible, as it was but an image).
O people! if this is the case, who are we Muslims inviting with images? WHO are we inviting with images when we use images of men, women, and animals in our Dawah seminars (rooms are decorated with pictures of WOMEN, young beautiful women!), centers, flyers, pamphlets? WHO Are we inviting? the non-Muslims KNOW already Images of all animated beings are prohibited in ISlam. are we muslims not only displaying our own weakness and ignorance of our own religion with our actions????? we are not but fooling our own ourselves…
Do i have to swear to get my point across, i was stunned but happy with these lessons i learned from my classes from non-Muslims, it only made me firm in my deen and its teachings, i ask Allah for firmness for myself and all of us. Ameen.
May Allah grant us tawfeeq to understand and implement. Ameen.
wassalamualikum.
