being excluded from the manhaj

BEING EXCLUDED FROM THE MANHAJsource: silsilat ul-hudaa wa nnoor, 727/1
asaheeha translations
Q: “Imaam Ibn Hajar had some mistakes in ‘aqeedah (creed), so does that exclude him from being upon the correct manhaj?”
Shaikh al-Albaani (rahimahullaah):
“If we all remember that ‘every human being errs much and the best of them are those who repent,’[1] and that infallibility is not for anyone after the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), then there is nothing odd about the fact that one who was an Imaam of the True Da’wah made a mistake. So if he made a mistake in an issue or two or three or more, that does not exclude him from the True Da’wah if he had adopted it. Haafidh bin Hajar was like Imaam an-Nawawi and others who made mistakes in some affairs of ‘aqeedah, but that does not exclude them from being among Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah, because the crucial factor is the correct ideology or righteous actions being predominant in a person.
When is a Muslim righteous? Is it a condition, in order for him to be righteous, that he does not commit any sin or act of disobedience? The answer is no. Rather, it is part of human nature that he would commit sins and acts of disobedience over and over again. So when is a slave righteous? When his good prevails over his evil, his righteousness over his misguidance, and so on. Exactly the same thing is said about knowledge-based affairs, whether they pertain to ‘aqeedah or fiqh. So if this scholar is predominantly upon correct knowledge, he is saved. As for him having a mistake or some mistakes in fiqh or ‘aqeedah, this does not exclude him from the correct ‘aqeedah that he is predominantly upon. So what you mentioned about Ibn Hajar having these errors, that does not mean that we shouldn’t benefit from his book or that we don’t ask Allaah to have mercy on him or that we don’t include him among the Muslim scholars adhering to the Book and the Sunnah…”
To Be Continued InshaaAllaah

Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said, “Every believer, even if he is a disobedient sinner [faasiq]–then it is forbidden to boycott him if there is no benefit in that boycotting.
If there is benefit in the boycotting then we do it because at that point the boycotting would be a cure.
But when there is no benefit in it or when it results in an increase in disobedience and insolence–then leaving that which has no benefit is the benefit.”

Our Noble Scholar Shaikh Hasan Abdul Wahab Al-Banna 87 Years old. Is a major and leading Ahlus Sunnah Scholar n Egypt. He was an Aqeedah teacher for over 14 years in Medina Uni allocated by Shaikh Ibn Baz. He used to teach in the University alongside, Shaikh Saalih Assuhaimi, Shaikh Muqbil, Shaikh Taqi Al-Deen Al-Hilaali & many others.

From his students is Shaikh Abdul-razzaaq al-abbaad & sheikh Dr. Muhammad the eldest son of Shaikh Rabee Al-Madkhali, sheikh Raslaan, Sheikh Abdu Abdul'alaa, Sheikh Abdur Rahmaan Khaalid.

Our Shaikh Hasan may Allah peserve him was the student of the major Scholar then Shaikh Abdul-Razzaq Al-Afeefi Egyption who was the debuty mufti of Saudi Arabia when Shaikh Ibn Baz was the the Mufti. The noble Scholar Sheikh Dr Saalih Al-Fowzaan the student of Shaikh Abdul-Razzaaq Al-Afeefi & studied under him when he went to Saudi as well as many major scholars did.

Our Noble Shaikh Hasan may Allah lenghthen his life in obedience & strengthen his health & reward him & all the scholars for their service to Islam & the Muslims.. also was the student of his older brother the noble Shaikh Muhammad Al-Banna who passed away Dec 2010 rahimuhuallah (Who was the sheikh of the Haadeeth Scholar Al-Baani and also Sheikh Rabee Al-Madkhali) Shaikh Al-Baani even visited sheikh Hasan al-Banna house in Cairo with his older brother Sheikh Muhammad al-banna, my sheikh Hasan told me this himself once when I was reading upon him a Aqeedah book behind the sitaarah at his house in Cairo; when I got to the hadeeth it said Al-Baani said it was saheeh, so my respected Shaikh Hasan Abdl Wahaab started to cry like a child, and kept saying 'may Allah have mercy upon Al-Baani.. he was a man of sunnah & such great character' and he would cry and say it repeatdly. Then when he stopped crying he said to me.. "My daughter Shaikh Al-Baani used to sit in the very place you are sitting now" and told me the above about the visit with his brother.

Our noble sheikh has sat under many major noble scholars of the past who majority passed away.. the noble Shaikh Hasan Al-Banna when used to be in Saudi.. he was a member of the committee of Islamic Awarness in Medina belonging to the Islamic Saudi Ministry; and him and the noble Scholar Shaikh Muhammad ibn uthaymeen used to stand side by side giving dawah and teaching the rulings of Hajj to the pilgrims.

All the Ahlus Sunnah people of knowledge who are firm upon the sunnah refer to the noble Scholar Hasan Al-Banna for advice in matters of knowledge, dawah, for direction; to check their books they author.

Our noble Shaikh is in frequent contact with the Islamic Schoalrs & honors them greatly. He has dedicated his life to teaching the Muslims the correct Aqeedah & Tawheed. He has travelled for dawah at old age to America, Kuwait, Saudi, Sweden & currently as I write in Tunisia.
He cares very much about the Muslims & always in their service; his phone always ringing from countries accross the world daily for hours at night answering their questions and adivcing them with an open chest.

He is very humble and has such high manners and character and I know this during my studies under him for 6 years.

For example he used to always say to me until now, "I am no a scholar my daughter! but people think I am. I am just a little student of knowledge I have very very little knowledge, my knowledge is simple & little; I just benefited over the years from the major Schoalrs and passing on the little I know" says this even in the mosque where he teaches always...He always says to me after explaining to me a principle in the religion which is complex "Was what I said correct? tell me my daughter if you hear anything wrong from me?"! how humble asking me; his (rubbish) student who knows nothing & learning from him!

I am a Salafi

I am a Salafi
أنا سلفي
By the
Muhaddith, Shaykh, Allamaa’Muhammad Nasir uddeen al-Albaani
Translated by
Abbas Abu Yahya

Why the ascription of Salafeeyah? Is it a call to Hizbeeyah?
Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- was asked:
‘Why the ascription of Salafeeyah? Is it a call to Hizbeeyah, or a sect, or Madhab, or is it a new group in Islaam?’
He answered:
‘Indeed the word ‘as-Salaf’ is well known in the Arabic language, and in the Sharia’, and what is important to us here is the research from the Sharia’ point of view.  It has been authentically reported from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- that he said to Sayyidah Fatima -Radi Allaahu anhu- during the illness from which he died:
فاتقي الله واصبري، ونعم السلف أنا لك
‘Fear Allaah and be patient, for indeed I am a blessed Salaf (Predecessor) for you.[1]
The scholars used this word ‘as-Salaf’ a lot, and it has been used so much more than can be enumerated, it is sufficient for us to use one example, and that is what we need to fight against Bida’:
كل خير في اتباع من سلف** وكل شر في ابتداع من خلف
Every good is in the following of the Salaf * and every evil is in the innovations of the Khalaf[2]
However, there are those who claim to have knowledge who reject this ascription, claiming that it does not have any foundation, so they say: it is not allowed for a Muslim to say I am a Salafi.  Its as if they say: it is not allowed for a Muslim to say: I follow the Salaf as-Salih of what they are upon from ‘Aqeedah, worship and manners!
There is no doubt that this type of rejection – if this is what they mean – necessitates being free from the correct Islaam which our Salaf as-Salih were upon, and at the head of them is the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- as is indicated in the Mutawatir hadeeth which is in Bukhari, Muslim and in other books, from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:
خير الناس قرني، ثم الذين يلونهم ، ثم الذين يلونهم
‘The best people are my generation then those who will come after them and then those after them.’
Therefore it is not allowed for the Muslim to free himself from the ascription to the Salaf as-Salih, whereas if a Muslim freed himself from any other ascription, then it would not be possible for anyone from the people of knowledge to ascribe them to Kufr (disbelief) or Fasooq (openly sinning).
And this person who rejects this ascription, don’t you see that he himself ascribes to a Madhab from theMadhahib (plural: Madhab)?! Whether this Madhab was connected to ‘Aqeedah or with Fiqh?
So he is either an Ashari or a Matroodi, or either he is from the Ahl-ul-Hadeeth, or Hanafi, or Shafia’i, or Maliki, or Hanbali from those who enter into the title of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal Jammah. Even though he who ascribes to theAshari Madhab or to the four Madhahib then he ascribes to people who are without doubt not infallible, even though there from those scholars who are correct, I wish he had only rejected the likes of these ascriptions to individuals not infallible.
As for the one who ascribes to the Salaf as-Salih, then he ascribes to that which is in general infallible, and indeed the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- mentioned that from the signs of the Firqat an-Najeeha (the saved sect) that they adhere to that which the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- was upon and what the Companions were upon, so who ever adhered to it is with certainty upon guidance from his Lord.
Without doubt the clear, manifest, distinguished, evident evidence of this title is to say: I am a Muslim upon the Book and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of our Salaf as-Salih, and that is to summarize it by saying:
أنا سلفي
I am a Salafi.’

The Noble Shaykh al-Allaamah Zayd  al-Madkhalee (mayAllaah preserve him stated):

"Indeed the caller to Allaah is considered a doctor who specializes in treating three well known dangerous abstract sicknesses.

1. The sickness of ignorance which Allaah has warned the seal of the Messengers Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) as well as His nation from who follow Him (the Prophet) in that. Allaah has said:
"Therefore do not be from the ignorant people."
(al-An'aam: 35)
Allaah has blamed  the people of ignorance and has given the most evil examples for them in numerous places from the clear verses (of the Qur'aan). From them is His statement:
"Whoever is blind in this (world) then he will be blind in the hereafter and the most astray from the path."
(al-Israa: 72)
Allaah has also stated:
"Shall he then who knows that what has been revealed to you is the truth from your Lord be like him who is blind? But it is only men of understanding that pay heed."
(ar-R'ad: 19)

In these two verses there is a clear evidence that the matter of ignorance is a dangerous sickness. It also is a reason for the wretchedness of the ignorant people in the life of this world and in the hereafter. There has come in one of the narrations:

"Be a scholar or one who learns or one who listens or one who loves (the knowledge and its people). Do not be the fifth (type of person) therefore become destroyed."

Indeed this has indicated that fleeing from the knowledge, not loving the its people and choosing ignorance over it is indeed the true destruction.

The doctor for this sickness, he is the caller to Allaah, the one who Allaah has favored with the inheritance of the Messengers and the Prophets. Indeed it is the beneficial knowledge which produces righteous actions.

The second of these sicknesses is the sickness of doubt. The third of these sicknesses is the sickness of desires.

The first is treated with the teaching (of Islaam) and the clarification in order that the certainty can take the place of the doubts.

The second is treated with the legislated patience. Therefore the patience is repelling the evil desires and corrupt wants.

The doctor of these two sicknesses is also is the caller toAllaah upon insight. This doctor who Allaah has given the wisdom in treating that which has preceded from the different types of sicknesses which have been written, he at the same time is a soldier moving forward in the realm of striving in the path of Allaah, according to that which the word striving carries of meaning.  He strives against five category of enemies and they are:

1. The soul that commands with evil

2. The Shaytaan (Devil) the enemy of mankind

3. The hypocrites

4. The open/apparent disbelievers

5. The wrong doers from the people of innovation and major sins

You see him (i.e. the caller to Allaah) has indeed prepared for each category the proper preparations according to that which Allaah has given him from knowledge based proofs, wisdom in propagation, scale of judgment based upon the scale of the Prophetic call, restrictions based upon the correct legislated restrictions and the regulations which have been extracted from the jurisprudence principles."

Abdullah Ibn Abdur-Rahmaan Al Jarboo (May Allah Preserve Him)
Acting Professor at Medinah University

Translated by: Tahir Wytt
Transcribed by: Amir Ibn Uthman Rushdan

Date – 24th of Rajab - Friday August 18,2006
Time – 7:30 – 8:30
Topic – “How to Give Dawah”

Professor from the College of Dawah “Usool ud-Deen” - Former head of Dept. of Aqeedah at Medinah University.

Has written many books (none of them translated in English). The name of one of his books “Examples of Imaan in the Quran.” The Shaykh studied at Petroleum University and he learned English there.

The Shaykh begins with the Name of Allah, Salaam, Introduction, and first three ayat of Surat-ul Fatihah and then testified there is none worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

“Oh you who believe, fear Allah, have taqwa of Allah, and be with those who are truthful”. This is a great command for everyone who is pleased with Allah and his Prophet. And they are the victorious group. That is the successful group as well, that group which will remain upon the truth until the Day of Judgment.

The Shaykh expressed his gratitude of being able to meet us and be with us today. He would have invited us to his house but he had to travel and he thanked Allah for making it easy for us to gather today on Jumua`ah. He hopes we increase in two things. 1- Obedience to Allah and Righteous actions. 2 – Increase in Knowledge so that we can call to the worship of Allah when we return insha’Allah.

In the beginning of this study period, we are reminded of that which has come, that which has been narrated in relationship to the virtues of giving Dawah. It is a fundamental job and duty of every Muslim as Allah has said to his Messengers “This is MY Path… We all call to Allah upon Baseerah, and Glory be to Allah that I am not amongst the Mushrikun.”

Dawah was a duty of the Prophets and messengers and it is now the duty of all Muslims. We have the ability to mention many ayat which have come to relation to Dawah. However we will mention one thing and use it as a key to open the doors to our discussion.

Allah says: “And who is better in speech then the one who calls to Allah, and who does righteous deeds, and says I am from amongst the Muslims”

There is no one better then this individual on earth who calls to Allah that does this.

Dawah to the People of the Book

1- Pure Intention – caller must have pure intention for the sake of Allah.

He wants to call to these people in specific because he sees his business and his trade from Allah and he wants benefits from Allah, His love, His pleasure.                – (If one wishes to gain the pleasure and love of Allah then he should look to giving Dawah) as this was the way of the Prophets. He should want to benefit and gain the same reward that the Prophets and Messengers gained in their business (tijara) with Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta`alah).  As the Prophet (Salallhu alayhi Wa Salam) Said:

“If one guides an individual to Islam, it is better for them then the red camels”

From the objectives of Dawah is that we establish the proof of Islaam. But the objective is for the Muslims to have people enter Islaam so this is more important then establishing the proof.

The individual should look to refute the lies against Islaam, but should not do this for his self’s sake but rather to refute the lies in order to get people to enter into Islaam. The wisdom is that once doing this, you include the previous goal while attempting the latter.

An important issue is that the Shaykh says the benefit we gain from making our niyah (intention) in making dawah to encourage people to enter into Islaam. This will help the individual who is making dawah to be consistent in good character (Dealing with them gently and not harshly). An example is the businessman who deals with people harshly and no one wants to buy from them whereas one who is gentle then the people will want to buy from them. We should want good for the person and want them to enter into that which is good for them. His goal should not be to establish the proof, but for the one who wants more then that to enter people into the deen, then this is better and the way is to be gentle and kind.

As it relates to the People of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), it is important one knows the reality of the individual you are calling, to know their way of thinking, their set of beliefs, their characteristics, behavior et… But what we find today is that the Jews and Christians of today is different then those of old. The Jews and Christians of today have been greatly affected by many factors (Philosophical theories, Darwinism, Zionism, etc… many of which don’t relate to their religion at all). So we find many Christian or Jews that thinks just like an Atheist, etc… The point is that you are clear of the condition of the one you are trying to call in order to be effective.

Two Categories of People that are dealt with in making Dawah to:

The one who is inviting he has to have a type of feeling. This feeling is that the one he is talking to, he wants the truth, shows things are making sense to him, and he is accepting etc...

The other is the one who is arrogant and doesn’t accept anything no matter what is said to him.

Firstly, the one who appears he doesn’t want the truth, may be envious, may have spite. etc… The Shaykh’s advice is to stay away from this type of individual because if he doesn’t want the truth then the only thing that will happen is that he will waste the Daaee’s time as well as use the time to create doubt in the Daaee.

For the one who is like this, then we give him a general statement and tell him that Allah has sent a Messenger with Truth. Refer him to the Quran and by doing this we have conveyed the message. By doing this, we have done our job.

The Shaykh goes on to say; now we want to deal with HOW to give DAWAH.

1- General Methods – Used with the mass majority.

- One should himself be a good Muslim, be presentable, and be clean. When people look at him they should see Islaam. In his behavior, his dress, all his actions, staying away from evil acts and indecent behaviors should be the model of Islaam. With good intention it is a good and easy way of giving dawah.

First example – As many know there are many vast countries spacious like Indonesia, China, Malaysia, etc. Which no army went to fight to spread Islaam, rather, Islaam was spread through trade, dawah, etc… And the locals found that the traders were good models and behaved decently, were clean, had honest stature, didn’t lie, didn’t commit al-fahishaa, etc… And so the locals liked this married into Muslim families, and this helped spread Islaam.

Second Example – The example here in Saudi Arabia where a family that had took as a maid a woman from a far eastern Asian country, perhaps Philippines. The woman began as a maid to the family, a Bedouin family; however she noticed how they used to purify themselves. They even had and exaggeration in their purification to her as to how they would purify themselves from urine, blood, etc… So she found this strange that they were this concerned about cleanliness. She had studied to be a nurse and found that germs are mostly in excretions etc... So she asked why is it that you all are so concerned with cleanliness and they said “We are Muslim and Allah has ordered us to stay away from these impurities”. So she said I want to read more about this Qur`an and as a result became Muslim, Alhamdulillah.

The Shaykh says this is what relates to the issue of Al-Qudwah (Being a good example).

“Oh Allah do not make us a fitnah for those who have disbelieved.”

This Ayah has two meanings from amongst the Salaf, both of which are true.

a) First meaning is Oh Allah; don’t place the kuffaar as authority over us so that they don’t take away our deen from us.

b) Second meaning, which his considered to be most authentic including Ibn Jareer is that it is a dua that Allah don’t make the Muslims to be in a position where they are weak (economically, politically, militarily) so that when the kuffaar look at us and see that we are weak, that they would say that we are weak because of our deen or Islaam. And by this, it prevents them from wanting to come to Islaam.

Second point under General Methods of calling to Islam is that which is used by many of the Christians who have entered into Islaam. When they go back to their people to make dawah and if their people say the truth is that which is our fathers were upon. If this was the case, then they are told, if this was true, then everyone would be on the truth. However, if one looks at the evidences, then they would see that the truth is one based on the evidences.

Then this one here, who has accepted the facts, then you’ll find they are also of different types.

There are some who want to debate in a philosophical manner and wants everything to make sense to him. For the Daaee who doesn’t have the ability to do this, then he should forward this individual to a Muslim who is knowledgeable in that area, in which to deal with this person with the proper knowledge and facts.

Another affair that needs attention is that one who doesn’t have the time to deal with this individual or take this individual to one who is able to deal with them then it is sufficient to give this copy a translation of the meaning of the Quraan. Some books which are not translated into English yet have stories of people who have treaded the path towards Islam and this could be given to them.

Then there is another type of people who are not interested in evidences. They seek evidences to convince that which is within themselves. They see the PEACE and Contentment within Muslims etc… or they know the beauties of Islaam.

The Shaykh wanted to lastly mention that there has been a lot that has been attributed to Islaam that is not from Islaam. They believe that there are many things that are from Islaam either because it has come from an astray group who says they are Muslims, OR perhaps this thing that they see is from Islam but it was presented in a negative manner and not properly. So they cannot digest that this is the perfect religion.

In general whatever the person calls to should be with sound knowledge and Ilm. Perhaps you may say something in ignorance and as a result close the door of guidance to the person.

Question – Some people claim that the actions of Al-Qaeda have brought back some power, glory, etc... to Islaam, so how do we approach this matter and these people?

Answer – The misconceptions and doubts surrounding the actions performed and the whole issue of The Al-Qaeda organization is something that has been confused. One main misconception is that America is trying to make a connection between Osama bin Laden to Saudi Arabia. The second misconception is that they want to connect the actions of this organization to Islaam. The third misconception is that with some of the Muslims, they have in that which was mentioned in the question itself that some Muslims believe there is some good for Islaam in these actions.

The first thing that we should clarify is that Osama bin Laden is not a Saudi, nor the way he thinks, nor his Aqeedah. He was born in Saudi but is from Yemen. Secondly his Aqeedah is that of the Sufi’s and is not upon that of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama`ah. Likewise, the third thing to mention is that the Saudi Govt. by way of taking advice from scholars realized this man has some weird thoughts and ideologies that have nothing to do with this country nor with what is taught in this country so based on this they revoked his citizenship when he was in Sudan. Based on this discovery by Saudi Arabia, they revoked his citizenship 10 years before the actions of 9/11. At that point in time America found itself defending Bin Laden saying he is a revolutionary, he was speaking out against the society of Saudi Arabia etc… However Saudi was saying at this time that he has an ideology which will lead to confrontation and for this reason they revoked his citizenship. The Saudi Govt. already discovered this person’s flaw well prior to 9/11.

As is related to the 2nd misconception is that these actions have something to do with Islaam, then this is also incorrect. These actions which have and are being done by Al-Qaeda are known to the Muslims to be actions of the Khawarij. Those who have left the way of the people of Knowledge and leave off the authority and place authority to people amongst them. As a result they do not recognize authority of Governments.

The Prophet in explaining this group, explained them as those who have left off obedience and have separated themselves from the Jama`ah. The Prophet also said they will exit at the end of time, that their will be a group at the end of time that will be very young. The next part of their characteristics is that they are foolish. They are people who don’t have a lot of experience in affairs.

So along with them being young and inexperienced is that they will speak with the best speech. They will quote from statements of the Prophets and Companions, etc…

The fourth characteristic that they have is that the speech they make does not go past their throats. They are not acting according to that which they are saying. Rather they are only acting according to their desires and distorting the text to make it mean that which they like. They don’t refer to the people of knowledge in matters of the text in relation to the deen.

The next thing described about them is that they will leave from the deen of Islaam just like the arrow flies out from the bow. The Prophet describes them as people who in the beginning were not strong to begin with so in the end they will leave the deen easily. (They will have no sound foundation in belief). After this the Prophet commanded that they be killed. He said “Kill them for indeed there is a reward for killing them in Yaumul Qiyaamah.”

The third misconception is that some of the Muslims mention there are benefits to Islaam as a result of these actions.

1- The ruling that is made upon a particular event has to go back to the textual evidence. We don’t look at as to what the people are doing. If so then this is taking ruling based on what has actually happened or occurred. If a person really believes this, then this in itself is a type of kufr. Because a person is now saying we can take a ruling based on our intellect and does not give the rulings priority to the texts and authentic sources.

Here many people have become convinced that the end results justify the means. The origin of the Shariah is perfect but due to false implementation confusion may occur and ignorance. For example a Sufi might tell you that celebrating the Mawlid is permissible. Why? Because the people’s hearts become soft and they may cry and some non-Mulsims may accept Islaam due to this etc… So based on this they may say that this is a righteous action to perform. Some people may take like drugs in the form of pills that make them excited and do so by saying this helps me in my ibaadah (ex. Pray tahajud et..). Rather this is an intoxicant and is plainly impermissible.

In summary here on the previous points, the point is that the actions that have been done or are being done by Al-Qaeda and with rulings then we must go back to the authentic sources and people of knowledge, not just here, but of all of the lands where the Ulemah have rejected the actions of these people.

The second thing is that they have not helped Islaam but rather harmed the image of Islaam. So here the Shaykh says he wants to show us an example of how impeded in the Dawah they are. In Sudan the Christians in the south, the West came and created a war between the Muslims and the Christians. Whenever a war happens an enmity comes into people which will not allow a people to accept anything from the one they are fighting. In south Sudan there were great efforts of Dawah being made prior to the war, but after the war there was no way of giving them the Dawah anymore. So we see in America there is no war but yet Muslims have not the ability to make this dawah due to the hatred caused towards Islaam by these actions of the likes of Al-Qaeda. They have indeed impeded on the process of Dawah and not helped it.

The Shaykh said in closing that in terms of what has been said, that these actions have returned to the Muslims the “awe” that the Kuffar are supposed to have of the Muslims. This in itself is purely a bad understanding, and is an opposite of what should happen.

As for the saying “people are now reading more about Islaam” he say yes this also happened with the Communists, so rather we see now that they are not reading about Islaam to learn it but rather to learn about their enemy our of fear.

2- Specific Methods – Customized towards the individual. (We did not have enough time to go over this)
Statement of the Noble Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (may Alaah preserve him) about the Tableeghis and going out with themJul 11, '11 3:37 PM
for everyone
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Q. Oh Noble Shaykh is going out for the period of months or weeks or days as the Tableeghis do, Sunnah or Bid'ah? Also is it permissible to go out with this group if the person is learned with the legislative knowledge?

A. This is not permissible. This is Bid'ah (Innovation). Going out for forty days or four months or four days, this is Bid'ah and this group is a Soofee group.  It is established that this group is a Soofee group, Deobandiyyah. They infiltrated our land and other lands for the purpose of spreading Sufism. It is not permissible for the person of the Sunnah and the person of Tawheed to go out with them. That's because if he goes out with them, he would have aided them in the spreading of innovation. Also the people will use him as a proof (to go out with the Tableeghis). They will say: So and so went out with them! Or they will say: Such and Such people went out with them! Or the people of the land. Therefore it is obligatory for the person to reject these individuals, it is obligatory that the people reject these individuals and they're not to be turned to in order that they return back to their lands with their innovation and not spread it amongst us. The person should not say: I'm going to go out with them in order to teach them. Keep this type of thinking far from your mind. They do not accept the teachings. That is because they are people who have a foundation (of innovation) with them and a methodology. They came to teach you and they didn't come for you you to teach them!! They came to teach you their Sufism and their methodology. They didn't come to learn from you. If they wanted to learn they would have sat at the hands of the Scholars in the Masaajid and read the Books (of the Sunnah). It is not permissible to be deceived by these mistakes."

Is It necessary to Adhere to a Shaykh from whom to Take a Tareeqah (a path)?

Is It necessary to Adhere to a Shaykh from whom to Take a Tareeqah (a path)?

Question:
When a Muslim is guided to the path of goodness, some say that it is necessary for him to adhere to a Shaykh from whom he can take a Tareeqah (a path) because Allaah Ta’ala said:
<< the Most Merciful, so ask about Him one well informed. >> [Furqan: 59]
Allaah is truthful:
<< So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know.  >> [Nahl: 43]

The Shaykh Answered:
And Allaah –Subhanahu wa Ta’ala – also says: << So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know. >> [Nahl: 43]
The Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said in the story of the man who went on a battle along with some of the Companions of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam. This man became afflicted with wounds, and in the morning he became defiled and thus it was obligatory upon him to have a Ghusl (ritual washing). He asked those around him if they could find a concession for him so that he would not have to make a Ghusl.  They said to him you must make a Ghusl, he did so and died due to those wounds that were upon his body, when that news reached the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam-, the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
‘They killed him, may Allaah fight them, if only they had asked when they did not know indeed that is the cure for any question.’
There is no doubt that these two previously mentioned Ayaat and this hadeeth places the Islaamic world in regards to knowledge and ignorance into two categories.
The first category are few in number and they are the people of knowledge and the other category are more in number and they are those who do not know, as you have heard in the previous Ayaah<< So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know.  >> [Nahl: 43]   Allaah placed an obligation upon every one of these two types.  He made it obligatory upon those who do not know to ask the People of knowledge and He made it obligatory upon the People of Knowledge to answer the questioner as is authentically reported from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam-:
‘Whoever is asked about knowledge and he conceals that knowledge then he will be reined with a rein/bridle made of fire on the Day of Judgement.’ [Collected by Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi & authenticated by Albaani in Saheeh Targheeb wa Tarheeb]
It is necessary for the one who is not an ‘Aalim (scholar) that he should be a student of knowledge or at the very least he should ask the people of knowledge as is mentioned in the Athar from Mu’adh-Radi Allaahu anhu- that he said:
‘Be a scholar, or one who learns knowledge, or one who listens to knowledge, and do not be the fourth and be destroyed.’
The last one is the one who does not listen to knowledge nor asks about it, so at that time he lives like an ignorant person not knowing how to worship Allaah –Tabaraka wa Ta’ala.
Asking the people of knowledge is an issue where there is a difference of opinion, as for adhering to a Shaykh, a Shaykh of a Tariqah (following a certain Soofi path), then here you have come to know that the path which reaches to Allaah –Subhanahu wa Ta’ala – is the straight path which the noble Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- left us upon.
The scholars are those who direct/show/indicate this path, so they are the ones to whom it is obligatory to ask, and it is not permissible to adhere to a Shaykh and single him out to follow, and to learn from him and not to learn from the other scholars, because here occurs a great mistake which is that just like as it is obligatory upon us to single out Allaah –Subhanahu wa Ta’ala – Alone for worship, it is also obligatory upon us to single out the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- in following him and it is not allowed to stick and follow just one from amongst the scholars, no matter how this scholar from amongst them was from the excellent and standing, since this status is not for anyone, except the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and this is from the meaning of the statement of the one who witnesses that: ‘Ashhadu alla ilaha ‘illa Allaah wahdahu la shareeka lahu wa anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa Rasooluhu (I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah Alone and He has no partners and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger’)  so he is the one who has to be followed from amongst the people.
If a Muslim adheres to one Shaykh or one teacher who teaches him, and he does not benefit from the other Mushayikh and other scholars from knowledge then this is violation of following the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam-because it is necessary to take all the scholars as indicators/directors who show us what our Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallamwas upon, and one single scholar no matter how much knowledge he has been given, and the matter regarding him and the right of every scholar, Allaah –Subhanahu wa Ta’ala – said: <> [Al-Isra: 85] so this is an old superstition of theSoofeeyah that it is obligatory that every Muslim has to adhere to a Shaykh.
We say: that it is obligatory upon every Muslim that he should be either a scholar or a learner or a listener or otherwise he will be destroyed.
As for adhering to a Shaykh and singling him out alone then this is from the actions of the Shaytaan.
We ask Allaah –Subhanahu wa Ta’ala – to give us all the capability to follow the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah and what the Salaf as-Salih were upon and keep us away from following other paths, upon which at the head of every path is a Shaytaan calling the people to it.
<< And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way>> [An’am: 153]
And all Praise belongs to Allaah.

Testing people and boycotting them because of Abul-Hasan al-Ma'ribi

- Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymee

Scholars Advice

Questioner: How are you doing- Our Shaykh? Are you well?
Shaykh: May Allah preserve your life and protect you.
Questioner: May Allah bless you. By Allah O Shaykh, I have a question that I want you to clarify.
Shaykh: Okay.
Questioner: As you know, Shaykh, the fitnah concerning Abul-Hasan...
Shaykh: Leave it! What do you have to do with it?! Avoid these fitnahs and other [unbeneficial] things that busy you. Busy yourselves with attaining knowledge, and leave those things which take you off of the path. Boycotting in these matters is incorrect, because these fitnahs are not clear to some people. In your lands there are many people who resort to boycotting, but they do not understand the meaning of boycotting, nor do they know the methodology of the Salaf. They do not know how to pray, they cannot distinguish between innovation and Sunnah or Tawheed and Shirk, then they go and boycott their brothers!! This issue is not even clear to some of the Shaykhs here with us! For me, the matter is clear and I know that he is an innovator, but I do not boycott my brothers because of him or because his affair is not clear to them.
Questioner: This is what has happened, may Allah bless you.
Shaykh: Boycotting, what does it have to do with you?! Do not boycott! These people who boycott have no understanding of the Religion in the first place! Read the book of Ibraheem ar-Ruhaylee entitled Advice[1]. Read it. This is a great book concerning the regulations of boycotting, i.e. when and when not to boycott someone.
Questioner: May Allah bless you, Shaykh. His affair, of course, is known, as you said, from reading the refutations.
Shaykh: I know his affair, and I know that he is an innovator, but whoever remains unclear about his affair, I do not boycott them or make tabdee’ of them [i.e., declare them to be innovators].
Questioner: Okay Shaykh, but I’m talking about the students who were [there]; the ones who came back from Yemen…There are those who say that they agree that he has mistakes, but…Does this mean they should be forced...
Shaykh: No, they are not to be forced [to declare him an innovator]. Do not boycott the one who believes that (i.e., that he’s not an innovator). Do not boycott him. If that was the case, we would boycott some of our major scholars because they didn’t boycott him![2]
Questioner: May Allah bless you. They have knowledge, Shaykh, some of the youth...
Shaykh: They have no knowledge! The boycotters have no knowledge; those who rush to boycott have no knowledge. I’ve come to know them where you are - in Algeria, in Yemen, in Morocco, even in Europe - they are ignorant people who claim to be scholars!!
Questioner: Okay, may Allah bless you Shaykh. [But] now I’m talking about the student’s who were in Yemen; they have some knowledge. In this issue particularly, we have some of the youth who remain unclear about this fitnah, so they say that you have make your position clear concerning this person or else they will boycott them [i.e., make tabdee' of Abul-Hasan or we will boycott you].
Shaykh: This is wrong and is not permissible…It is not permissible to boycott; it is not permissible to boycott them, because they are unaware concerning this matter and do not [fully] comprehend it.
Questioner: This is for the common people, but what about those who mixed or dealt with Abul-Hasan?
Shaykh: [This ruling is for] anyone who his affair in not clear to them. To many people of knowledge here, his affair is not clear. His affair is not clear to some major scholars!
Questioner: [What about] the youth who knew...
Shaykh: Leave off boycotting. This isn't your concern, not them nor these other youth (i.e., those of them who have knowledge and those who don’t). You are not the ones who boycott.
Questioner: By Allah, Shaykh, we are in a country where we lack knowledge and scholars.
Shaykh: We, here, have a lot of people who don’t have much knowledge and they boycott even in fiqh issues!! Ignoramuses! Fools!
Questioner: May Allah bless you. So that means that having harmony is better and we should not boycott one another.
Shaykh: Yes.
Questioner: O Shaykh, this call was recorded. Can we spread it or not?[3]
Shaykh: No problem.

Differing Does Not Necessitate Splitting

- Shaykh Saalih ibn Fowzaan al-Fowzaan

Refer to attached audio file
Category:
Fiqh

Question: Does differing on issues of methodology [1], such as gender mixing, studying and shaking hands with the opposite sex, and the use of television for da'wah purposes necessitate division and differing amongst each other?

Response: The issues of fiqh are issues of ijtihad; some of the opinions are correct in these issues and others are incorrect. We take the correct opinion and leave the one that is incorrect. Moreover, we don't harbor enmity or boycott one another due to varying opinions as long as our creed is the same. The rest of the issues of fiqh in which there is room for ijtihad and examination do not necessitate boycotting and animosity.

Footnote:
[1] The word "methodology" in this question has a different meaning than is commonly used; it doesn't refer to issues related to creed, but rather issues that some scholars have differed on pertinent to fiqh. The Shaykh refers to the issues mentioned in the question as issues of ijtihad. It should be known that in all of these issues, one should follow the opinion he believes is supported by the strongest evidence, even though his ijtihad may lead him to a different conclusion than that of another. The Shaykh is addressing how to deal with those differences.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"As for the Sahaabah, it is not known that there was one who intentionally lied amongst them, and the praise is for Allaah, just as it was not known that there was one from amongst them who was from the well-known people of innovation. Like the Khawaarij, the Raafidah, the Qadariyyah, the Murjiah, etc...It is not known that any of these deviant groups were amongst them (the Sahaabah). As for the Taabi'een, it is not known that anyone from the Taabi'een from the people of Makkah, Madeenah, ash-Shaam, al-Basrah intentionally lied. This is different from the Shee'ah. Indeed the matter of lying is something that is well known amongst them. Also this matter of lying has become known in the other groups after them."

Advice for Those who Author Refutations [1]

Scholars Advice

In the name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
All praise is for Allaah, may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allaah; upon his family, companions and all those who followed him.
I would like to admonish myself and my brothers to fear Allaah (the most High) and to be cautious and wary of Allaah in speech and action, both apparent and hidden.
Furthermore, I would like to remind myself and also my brothers who are involved in authoring – especially in the domain of refutations; that they should pay attention to their articles, ensuring they emanate from an honest intention and sincerity for the sake Allaah (the most High).
The one writing the refutation should only intend advice for the one being refuted and for the rest of the people, so they are not deceived by the innovations and errors that are found in the writings of the one being refuted. Any action, if it is not done sincerely for the sake of Allaah, will not benefit the person when he is with Allaah. So beware of the plots of Shaytaan in this regard.
Shaytaan may try to beautify the praise of the people for the one writing the refutation; that the people will say, ‘such a person is a champion of the truth’ or ‘he is courageous and he does not fear anybody for the sake of Allaah’ and so on and so forth. Due to this, the person [writing the refutation] may be the first of those who are burnt in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection – refuge is sought in Allaah.
Also from the ploys of Shaytaan is that he deceives the person so that he intends by his refutation to only avenge himself or his Shaykh. However, the reality is that refutations should only be written in order to defend the truth, and Allaah is not deceived. Indeed Allaah knows the secrets and that which is hidden, and He knows well the deceptions used and what the chests conceal.
The one writing the refutation should strive to ascertain the truth. So much so that his refutation is based upon knowledge, evidences and proofs from the Book, the Sunnah and sayings of the people of knowledge from the pious predecessors of this Ummah – both old and recent.
He should be diligent; fearing Allaah in his choice of words and he should distance himself - as much as possible - from words of insult, abuse, ridicule and contempt. This applies even if the person being refuted is from the most foolish of people in speaking and writing. ((A believer is not somebody who curses, insults and neither is he vulgar and obscene)). [2]
Yes, whoever is oppressed has a right to defend himself, however if he is patient then that is better for him. The opportunity of writing on the internet specifically, requires us to be even more careful due to the amount of people that come across a single article, and also due to the difference in people’s understanding and intentions.
Indeed, establishing the truth and the removal of falsehood does not require phrases of insult, mockery and calling nicknames, rather it requires justice and being upon the truth.
Also, to distance yourself from using insults is even more important when the one being refuted is inferior in knowledge, understanding, character and manners - taking into consideration his evil and foolishness; so that he does not have a pretext to exaggerate and increase in insulting the Sunnah and the people of Sunnah.
Allaah (the most high) said,
{…and do not insult those they invoke other than Allaah, lest they insult Allaah in enmity without knowledge} [06:108]
Allaah (the Glorified) forbade us from insulting the idols of the Mushrikeen - even though it is the truth – due to the greater harm that it would lead to. This being that they would then insult Allaah out of anger for their idols.
May Allaah guide us to all that He loves and is pleased with. May peace and blessings be upon His slave and messenger Muhammad, his family and companions.

Benefit: When Someone Errs and Causes Harm to the Da'wah and its Image, How Do We Deal with them?

Sunday, 20 March 2011

In the Name of Allaah, Ar-Rahmaan, Ar-Raheem...
When Someone Errs and Causes Harm to the Da'wah and its Image, How Do We Deal with them?

Just as the harm and confusion spread can be of various levels, the people who err themselves are of different backgrounds and levels.

Let us understand something that may help us appreciate how the scholars and students deal with these kinds of issues...

Scenario:

A student of knowledge graduates and moves into a position to give da'wah.  He speaks with errors and blunders commonly, behaves poorly with the people, and proves to be a poor role model.  He draws the spotlight to himself and demonizes those who correct his errors, claiming oppression and holding to his right to defend his honor.  The da'wah he gives revolves heavily around defending and promoting himself, all in the name of clarifying the truth...

Although this kind of person may have some benefit for the da'wah, the harms he brings the image of Islaam clearly outweigh those benefits.

Another Scenario:

A student of knowledge known for 10+ years of consistent study under well-known scholars (whether in universities or elsewhere), and just as many years of teaching and helping new Muslims understand the basics of Islaam.  Teaching and counseling individuals for hours at a time, for years and years.  Known for guiding the common people to the well-known and respected senior scholars.

He then errs in a fitnah, attacks some of Ahlus-Sunnah, sides with people causing confusion, etc. in a way that harms the image of the da'wah.  He becomes confused in some issues and hastily accepts reports from dishonest people spreading lies and distortions, and thus he takes stances against his brothers who are similar to him in their years of efforts in the da'wah, and known to the scholars for such efforts.

Are the two equal?

While the first one has not given us anything, or built anything respectable, the second one has a history of real contributions that must be recognized.  It doesn't mean he is allowed to say whatever he wants, and there will be no recompense.  But the scholars and their students exercise restraint in attempting to bring about rectification in this kind of person.  They realize that he has a background of productive and helpful activity, that there is real substance to him, behind the current errors.  Basically, his benefit outweighs his harm, so they take special care and show more patience with him in times of fitnah.  He deserves that, while the other one has not given us anything in the first place to deserve any special consideration and additional patience.

So let us not understand that our scholars have "double standards" when dealing with people, as people have claimed when comparing Shaykh Bakr Aboo Zayd (an established scholar with a lot of beneficial work) and Abul-Hasan al-Ma'ribee, a fitnah and trial for the Muslims, not known for any significant contributions to any of the Islaamic sciences.  Some people without thinking of these points have declared in ignorance, "This is double standards, because one is a Saudi and the other is not."  Such people should reflect over their speech about academic criticism from the scholars and realize they are way out of their league to speak out, and absolutely misinformed about scholarly principles in academic criticism!

Furthermore, I hope that on a smaller scale, lesser students and da'wahorganizations in the West could remember to show restraint and patience when dealing with the errors of someone with a history of apparently sincere hard work and consistent efforts vs. someone who begins and ends as a fitnah for the Muslims and their da'wah.

I do not say this because I feel that it is not being practiced.  On the contrary, I see this being practiced by many of our brothers in the da'wah often.  I just thought that sharing insight into this matter with everyone might be of benefit, and it might kill some of the unwarranted suspicions that the Shaytaan loves to spread.

And Allaah knows best.

Monopolizing Salafiyyah
Shaykh Saalih ibn Fowzaan al-Fowzaan
Reference: http://www.alfawzan.ws/node/9908
CategoryScholars Advice
Question: There is a group from amongst the students and youth who have formed a faction, monopolized salafiyyah, claimed that their brothers are innovators (made tabdee' of them) and fanatically adhere to their opinions. So what is Salafiyyah?
Response: Salafiyyah [i.e. the Salafi] is the one who is upon the methodology of the salaf. Allah, the Exalted, says:
{And the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajirun and the Ansar and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith)} [at-Taubah (9): 100]
And He, the Exalted, also says:
{And [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith..."} [al-Hashr (59): 10]
Thus Salafiyyah is following the salaf from the Companions (Sahabah), the Successors (Tabi'een), their students (Atbaa' at-Tabi'een), and the virtuous generations [1]; this is Salafiyyah. It is not permissible for anyone to monopolize it. Each and every individual that follows the methodology of the Salaf is Salafi. Salafiyyah is not specific to any group or individual, rather it is for anyone who truly embodies it.
Also, I encourage the youth and students of knowledge to be above this name calling – “he's Salafi”, “he's Jaami”[2], “he's Ikhwani” – I do not deem this [to be befitting], because these things have started to alienate the Muslims and their youth and cause fitnah. I encourage sticking to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger and the Methodology of as-Salaf as-Saleh and that we be brothers who love each other for Allah's sake.

How does an 'aalim (scholar) commands one of the students to go and give duroos in one of the masaajid?Sep 13, '07 1:14 AM
for everyone

Q: How does a scholar choose the reader (meaning the one who reads the text for him during lectures)?
The Shaykh asked to be sure of the question: "Like someone who reads for the scholar?"  - Yes.
A: Usually the Shaykh takes one of his closest students that he knows to be very good in reading or he is good in seeking knowledge. Sometimes he chooses one who's not the best just so that he can correct his reading. That is the way he chooses the reader, but if the question is: How does an 'aalim (scholar) commands one of the students to go and give duroos in one of the masaajid?" - that is exactly how the doctor in the college recommends someone to be a teacher or to be a or medical doctor, etc. How? After putting him through many tests, exams and discussions until he knows how much knowledge the student has.
It's like what Imaam Maalik said: "I never started giving fataawaa or duroos until 70 of the scholars of Madeenah permitted me to do so." That's how the scholars usually recommend their students to teach knowledge.

The respect of an individual is the praise of the salafi scholars

Sheikh Ahmed Bazmoul on Seeking Knowledge (while being) Away From the Scholars
Question: What does a person who wants to seek knowledge do if he is not able to reach the people of knowledge? Do they suffice with taking knowledge from books, and what is the methodology of doing so in this case?
The Shaykh repeated the question and asked: Is the person an Arabic speaker or a non Arabic speaker?
The questioner responds that he is as Arabic speaker.
The Shaykh answers:
As for seeking knowledge, the origin is that the Muslim travels to the scholars to gain knowledge from them if he does not have a scholar in his locality. What is befitting for him is to travel to the scholars if he is able. All praise is for Allah Aza wa Jel, during our present time means of communicating with the scholars have become widespread. (It has become easy for us to communicate with) the scholars who are upon the straight methodology and safe aqeedah, but we will lay (mention) some easy affairs for the one seeking knowledge in our present time so that a person can seek knowledge while he is in the confines of his home.
This is done in the following ways:
1. If he is able to call a scholar (one upon the Sunnah) if he has the financial means, him and a group of his friends can attend a class with the scholar. This is a means of seeking knowledge.
2. Another way which is also easy it that an individual for example travels to Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah and during his visit, he buys tapes of the people of knowledge that are well known for their correct beliefs and methodology. (A person) can also request someone else who is traveling to buy these tapes for them. Thereafter the individual listens to these audio recordings, he listens to the speech of the people of knowledge. It is, by the permission of Allah, as if he is in front of the scholar.
3. If an individual is able to be consistent with the classes on the radio, for example the classes of Shaykh Saleh al Fawzan or other than him (may Allah preserve him) from the scholars that are well known who's classes are broadcasted on the Quran radio station (KSA). It is upon the individual to be consistent with this program . This is very good, but at the same time, I warn of some stations that have lessons with individuals who's affairs are not known or those who are known to have deviated from the salafi methodology. Verily, one does not take knowledge from these stations for indeed those individuals that are unknown or have deviated from the correct path and the salafi methodology, one does not take knowledge from them. This is because knowledge is from the religion, so let everyone look to who he takes his knowledge from. (Unclear sentence) Verily if you seek knowledge from a person of innovation or a man that you do not know his religion, you do not know if is methodology is safe or unsafe. And the methodology (of an individual) is known by either being widespread or asking the salafi scholars. You say to them: We have an individual so and so , do you know this person? If they reply: We know him to have the correct methodology and belief. Then one can take from him, but if they say, we don't know him then you should continue to ask until you find out about him.
4. By way of internet, for indeed there are (paltalk) rooms for Shaykh Zayd al Madkhali, Shaykh Ahmad an Najmee and Shaykh Rabee al Madkhali and other than them from the salafi scholars. There are also rooms for some salafi students of knowledge, classes that an individual can go on the internet and enter these rooms and schedule classes for himself. I also warn from intensive lessons from some directions that it is not known who is teaching. An individual says: I take the lesson and I just continue upon my way! I warn you of this. I warn you from taking lessons from rooms who either have individuals who are unknown or they are known for incorrect beliefs. Do not be deceived because an individual teaches in such and such university or such and such institute etc.. Verily these titles: (BA, MA, PhD) do not benefit and do not satisfy ones hunger. The respect of an individual is the praise of the salafi scholars for them, and their knowledge of them. A person merely being a doctor and the likes, an individual may in fact be a revolutionist. So be aware and do not be deceived by his degree (unclear words) I am informing you of sources for seeking knowledge but there might be some sort of danger in some of them, so I have to warn you from this danger.
Other means of seeking knowledge similar to what was mentioned by the questioner, such as reading books. But in reading books there are also things one should be cautious of:
1. If a person does not have knowledge, he can misunderstand something
2. He may incorrectly pronounce words
3. He may read from whoever comes and goes and the affair becomes confusing to him. He reads from the people of Ahlus Sunnah and he, for example reads from the people of innovation, and he does not distinguish between the two. But on the other hand, if he knows the arabic language, he understands the speech and he has sat with the people of knowledge and he has some foundations for example; the foundations that by the permission of Allah, he is able to continue reading, writing and researching, then this is ok. But he should be aware of the following matters:
1. He should refer to the speech of the scholars, not depend on his own understanding
2. He must be diligent and read the books of the people of sunnah, those known with the correct methodology and belief only!
3. When he is able to reach the Ulema, it is upon him to do so. To go to them, to refer back to them, to ask them
4. His reading of books is done so out of need he does not make this his means of seeking legislated knowledge, rather, he takes if from the mouths of the scholars just as the salaf took it from the Prophet (sallahu aleehe wa saleem) and his students and those who came after took it from the salaf. This is (the way) knowledge (should be sought). But if a person merely takes it from books, and reads from those who are not known, then a person may deviate. Verily knowledge is obtained by seeking it and having a relationship (with the people of knowledge). The purpose of seeking knowledge is not merely to have abundant amounts of information, verily there are affairs that are related to knowledge, such as its manners and understanding. It is because of this, ignorance and mistakes have increased for the individual who has made reading books a habit instead of sitting with the scholars.
These are some means of seeking knowledge that I advise myself and the questioner with. Allah knows best, and may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon the Messenger Muhammad, his family and his companions.
