COMMON ERRORS IN KNOWING WHO IS A SCHOLAR

Sheikh Ubayd al-Jaabiree says:

"A scholar is the one who becomes known for knowledge, his feet become firmly established. He is the one whom the Muslims should study under and not leave for someone who is less than him except if there is a need to.

Ibn Mas'ud (may Allaah be pleased with him) said,

"The people will continue to be upon goodness so long as they take the knowledge from the companions of the Messenger, and from their elders but if they take the knowledge from the young ones they will be destroyed."

Do you know who the young ones are? They are the people of whims and desires . They are the ones who leave the Prophetic texts and hold onto their opinions, philosophy and beautiful speech until they deceive the people. They control and overcome them with the outcome being ignorance.

The scholars used to test the people of each place with their scholars. So in the past they used to say: Test the people of Madinah with Malik ibn Anas and test the people of Sham with al-Auzaa'ee and test the people of Egypt with Laith ibn Sa'd and test the people of Koofah with Sufyaan and test the people of Mosul with Mu'afah ibn Imran.

What they mean by this is that the people in these areas are asked about their scholars. If they spoke well of them and respected them they would be brought closer and respected. If they spoke ill of these scholars and insulted them then the scholars kept them away from themselves by splitting off from them. This shows that the scholars are a blessing for this Islamic nation, they educate the people and teach them from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, the religion of Allaah upon the understanding of the Pious Predecessors. By them the people are strengthened, the scales are measured in full and people's possessions are protected from innovations and newly invented matters.

If the Islamic nation does not have a need for its scholars and it puts the scholars behind itself then those people are considered to be evil. Salute them for indeed the devils from the jinns and people will overcome them.

Oh Muslims, do not be like those who have no need of the scholars. Those scholars who are known to the general and specific ones like

the Imam Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Baz (rahimahullaah-may Allaah have mercy on him),

and like the Imam Sheikh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-'Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah-may Allaah have mercy on him),

and like the Imam Sheikh al-Albaani (rahimahullaah-may Allaah have mercy on him),

and their brothers who are upon the truth after them in our judgment and Allaah is their reckoner.

At the head of them, the Muftee of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdulaziz ibn Abdillaah al-Sheikh,

and the honourable Sheikh Salih al-Luhaydan,

and the honourable Sheikh Saalih al-Fawzaan,

and the honourable Sheikh Abdullaah ibn al-Ghudayan,

and their brothers who are with them upon the Sunnah. We do not praise them above Allaah's praise and Allaah is their reckoner.

Oh Muslims, be careful that opinions overcome you and you are confused by dazzling speech for this is the beginning of misguidance and destruction. May Allaah protect us and you in our religion in this life and the hereafter..."

Shaykh Saalim ibn Sa’d at-Taweel USA visit July 2010

Shaykh Saalim ibn Sa’d at-Taweel USA visit July 2010

These are the happiest times for a Sunni, when he hears that he can have the chance to sit with one of the mashaayikh of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah.
Many people in the West are referred to as “Shaykh” when they are not really deserving of that title. In the West, we don’t have any scholars, we only have speakers. And that is why when one of the mashaayikh come to the West, we should take every opportunity to go and sit with them inshaAllah.
———
We are pleased to announce that Shaykh Saalim ibn Sa’d at-Taweel will be returning to St. Louis again this year for the 4th of July weekend. The Shaykh will be arriving Tuesday, June 29 and will leave for Chicago Tuesday, July 6.
St. Louis, MO (From Sun, 27-Jun to Tue, 6-Jul)
Chicago, IL (From Tue, 6-Jul to Tue, 13-Jul)
Washington DC (From Tue, 13-Jul to Tue, 20-Jul)

As always, with every program we host at the Grand Islamic Center in St. Louis, all meals will be provided for guests.
Brothers may stay in the Masjid (which has undergone many upgrades since last year – and is therefore much more comfortable). And there are houses Sisters may stay in which are nearby the Masjid (even walking distance). If a couple requires to stay together, we have a hotel 15 minutes away that will give a discounted rate. (But if they can manage to sleep apart a few nights, we recommend they save money by the Brothers staying in the Masjid and Sisters in a nearby house.)
If you plan to fly in, please send a copy of your flight information so that we may be there to pick you up.
There will be limited vending. Contact us with any questions.
The Shaykh is going to be discussing Ahaadeeth which mention: “he is not from us…” and “he is not from me…” What does this phrase mean exactly? And who are those who are not from us? An important topic for each individual to look inward and ask himself, “Where am I falling short in the Sunnah?”
And for those of you who have seen the Shaykh’s bio (http://mahad-ul-furqan.org/5236/6522.html) he has a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s Degree in Hadeeth.

Ar. - The obligation of enjoining good and forbidding evil

ReviewReviewReviewReviewReviewAr. - The obligation of enjoining good and forbidding evilMay 18, '10 10:14 AM
by Nasrin for everyone
Category:Books
Genre: Religion & Spirituality
Author:Shaykh Abdul Azeez bin Bazz
I bought this book with the last book, 10 advice on memorization, and Alhamdulilah i finished it last night. It wasn't that hard of a book to understand in whole alhamdulillah. there were some words here and there that i didn't know but it was ok.

this book was published in English by alhujjahpublication and you can buy it from there site for $5 dollars, Click here
and you can buy it from rimarket.net for $4 dollars and there are only 2 copies left Click here

I didn't want the english copy so i bought the arabic and it took me a while to buy it as well since the book was out of stock for a long time, alhamdulillah i was managed to get it recently. alhamdulillah.

here is little excerpt from alhujjahpublication from the book:

As for those who enjoin the good and forbid the evil for other purposes like showing off or to be heard or a worldly significance or for any other reasons or even to oppose the act of enjoining the good and perpetrating the evil then they are the filthiest of mankind and from the evilest who will face a severe consequence.

And in the two Saheeh [authentic collections of prophetic narrations] from Usaamah bin Zayd from the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wasallam that he said:

A man will be brought forward on the Day of Resurrection and thrown in the hellfire. The insides of his stomach will be hanging out. He will circle around the hellfire the same way that a donkey circles around the grain grinder. The people of the hellfire will gather around him and say, ?What has happened to you O such and such person? Did you not used to enjoin the good and forbid the evil?? And he will say to them, ?Certainly but I used to command you to enjoin the good but not do it myself and I would forbid the evil amongst you and fall into it myself.?

-=============- The book was very beneficial maashaaAllah. i liked one part of the book very much than other parts. Shaykh started the book pointing out the great status that this obligation has, "the commanding of the good and the forbidding of the evil".

Shaykh brought in verses of the Qur'an where Allah mentions this obligation even before the Emaan to show how important this obligation is. Like in this aya: You [true believers in Islâmic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden), and you believe in Allâh. (Aali Imran 3:110)

then shaykh mention why it is so important in this times of ours, because of the great corruption there is in the society and great numbers of callers to falsehood and little number of caller to good. Shaykh said that this obligation was carried out during the time of the prophet sallallahu alayhe wasallam and in the time of the sahabah and the salaf, and after them this obligation to be carried is even greater.

then shaykh mentions that this ummah is called best because they enjoin good and forbid evil.

shaykh then mentions that this obligation was present in the past nations as well and the origin of enjoining good is, tawheed of Allah and sincerity to Him and the origin of forbidding evil is shikr with Allah and worshiping other than Him.

then shaykh brings in ayah to show that Allah revoked the previous nations because they left off this obligation. like in these ayat: Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawûd (David) and 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). That was because they disobeyed (Allâh and the Messengers) and were ever transgressing beyond bounds. (Al-Ma'idah 5:78) They used not to forbid one another from the Munkar (wrong, evildoing, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.) which they committed. Vile indeed was what they used to do. (Al-Ma'idah 5:79)

and shaykh also brought up this ayah: Not all of them are alike; a party of the people of the Scripture stand for the right, they recite the Verses of Allâh during the hours of the night, prostrating themselves in prayer. (Aali Imran 3:113) They believe in Allâh and the Last Day; they enjoin Al-Ma'rûf (Islâmic Monotheism, and following Prophet Muhammad SAW) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and opposing Prophet Muhammad SAW); and they hasten in (all) good works; and they are among the righteous. (Aali Imran 3:114) And whatever good they do, nothing will be rejected of them; for Allâh knows well those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). (Aali Imran 3:115)

to show that Allah praised a party of the previous nation because they used to carry out this obligation of enjoining good and forbidding evil. this party were not touched by what touched the other party that has been cursed by their prophets alayhim as salam.

then shaykh brings other ayas to show its greatness and then shaykh mentions that carrying out this obligation brings about much good, and virtues and reduces the evil and leads to struggling for the sake of Allah and absence of carrying out this obligation leads to corruption and evil increases and caller to falsehood increases as is the case in every place.

The believers, men and women, are Auliyâ' (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma'rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islâm has forbidden); they perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât) and give the Zakât, and obey Allâh and His Messenger. Allâh will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise. (At-Tawbah 9:71)

after mentioning this aya shaykh mentions the mercy of Allah is obtained only by obeying Allah and His Rasul and not by lineage nor with wealth or businesses.

then shaykh says those who truly magnify Allah and truly fears him and truly hopes in Him are those who establishes His Commands, and follows His Shari'ah and those who struggles in His path and those who enjoin good and forbid evil. as Allah said, Verily, those who have believed, and those who have emigrated (for Allâh's Religion) and have striven hard in the Way of Allâh, all these hope for Allâh's Mercy. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful. (Al-Baqarah 2:218)

then shaykh says that Allah restricted success to those who enjoin good and forbid evil as Allah says, Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islâm), enjoining Al-Ma'rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful. (Aali Imran 3:104)

then shaykh shows the importance of acting on the good that one calls to and leaving the haram that one forbids and brings the hadith that is mentioned in the beginning to show the end of doing otherwise.

then shaykh says that the obligation on every muslim to call to good while acting on that good and forbidding evil while leaving that evil.

then shaykh mentions that it is an obligation upon this ummah to rush to this obligation and then shaykh brings ahadeeth that shows the levels of carrying out this obligation, i.e. the hadith where prophet sallallahu alayhe wasallam says, whoever sees evil let him forbid with his hand, if not then with his tongue, if not then with his heart and that is the weakest [state] of the emaan"

then shaykh goes on to explain each of the 3 levels, 1. by hand, 2. by tongue, and 3. by heart.

then shaykh says that one should be gentle in carrying out this obligation and brings in ahadeeth to show that our Prophet ordered us to be gentle and Allah loves gentleness in all matters.

And argue not with the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), unless it be in (a way) that is better (with good words and in good manner, inviting them to Islâmic Monotheism with His Verses), except with such of them as do wrong," (Al-'Ankabut 29:46)

shaykh brings up this ayah and says Allah has ordered us to call the people of the book with what is better, and they are the jews and christians, and they are kuffar except those who wronged as for them there is another way to treat them, and shaykh brings in ayah that says the reward of evil is evil like it.. but shaykh says still calling is established and should be with what is best as it is nearness to good.

then shaykh brings in the narration of sufyan ath.thawee where he said, it is necessary that the one who calls to good should be gentle in calling to good and should be gentle in forbidding evil and should be just in calling to good and forbidding evil and should be knowledgeable in calling to good and forbidding evil.

and then shaykh says the meaning of the salaf's saying is that the gentleness should be with knowledge, forbearance and insight [baseerah]. do not order nor forbid except with knowledge, not with ignorance, with that being gentle and acting on what is called to and leaving what is being forbidden until one is model for it.

then shaykh mentions under 3rd level [hating with heart] a narration from ibn masud where some people said to him, "i am destroyed if i do not enjoin good nor forbid evil", so ibn masud said to him, "you are destroyed if your heart doesn't know good and doesn't hate evil"

so shaykh says it is necessary to know good by learning the deen and understanding it, and necessary to know evil like that as well and after that carry out enjoining good and forbidding evil. then shaykh says learning the dene is from the sign of happiness and that Allah wants good for the person, as came in the hadith and shaykh mentions them as well.

then shaykh gives advice on seeking knowledge and reading and learning and memorizing and contemplating of the Qur'an, and then shaykh says that all students of knowledge should strive to memorize books like 40 hadith of annawawee and then ummdatul ahkam and then bolugh almaram and shaykh says this is great good and blessing from Allah if one could memorize the last two as well.

and then shaykh mentions the memorizing of kitab at tawheed and kashfus subuhat and also kitab alwasitiah and kitab aliman of imam muhammad ibn abdul wahhab and other beneficial books like these and shaykh mentions the focusing on the Qur'an and learning and acting and pondering of the Qur'an. and shaykh says with that one should review with the classmates and also ask the teachers and scholars those who are known for knowledge and to ask Allah for tawfeeq and help and not to be weak and not to be lazy and to preserve the time and to divide that into parts.

a part of the day and night for reciting the qur'an and pondering of it, and a part for seeking knowledge and understanding the deen and memorizing the mutun/texts and reviewing and the likes, and a part with the family for his needs, and a part for the salat [prayers], and worship and various duas and remembrances.

then shaykh says if we do not carry out this obligation of enjoining good and forbidding evil, then there will come a time when our dua will not be responded to and we will not be aided when we ask for it, and if we ask, we will not be given by Allah, and Allah will send us punishment as came in the ahadeeth.

then shaykh mentions how previous nations were also afflicted due to leaving this great obligation.

then shaykh says this obligation is fard 'ayn - mandatory on some people, and optional on others, if some does it, then obligation from others are lifted and is optional and if no one does then everyone sins for leaving it off.

then shaykh says in there is only one scholar in then country or tribe, then he should teach people and call them to good and enjoin good and forbid evil based on his ability as Allah said, fear Allah as much as you can. and whoever Allah gives success and suffices from the scholars and caller to these two obligation in enjoining good and forbidding evil then he Succeeded as Allah says, And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). (At-Talaq 65:2) And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things. (At-Talaq 65:3)

then shaykh mentions a ayah and surah asr and says the winners are the people of iman, and those who do good deeds and those who enjoin the truth and enjoin each others upon patience.

and he mentions little more on this matter and then ended the book with the dua.

Alhamdulillah. i hope whoever reads this review finds good in it and may Allah make us amongst those who follows the best of what they hear. ameen. may Allah guide us all and rectify our affairs and make us obedient to Him at all time and forgive us. ameen.

Ar. - 10 Advice for Strengthing Your Memorization

Category:Books
Genre:Religion & Spirituality
Author:Ash-Sheikh Badr Al-Utaybee
I bought the book recently from rimarket.net - I finished the books i think yesterday or the day before, in the morning, just tried to read and get most out of the Book. Alhamdulillah. It was a very beneficial books.

there is so much i could share with you from the book if i could only look through it again and note out but i have the content of the book for you here and this will tell you enough about the book. inshaaAllah.

1 - the maintenance of Dhikr - remembrance of Allah and its repetition
2 - The distancing from the sins
3 - The actions by what is learned
4 - Training the mind and activate the memory
5 - The writing of the what is memorized even more than once
6 - The reviewing
7 - The conversation with what is memorized
8 - Connecting what is memorized starting with what came before its memorization
9 - Eating what will help on strenghening of the memorization
10 - Time management

Shaykh in the first section mentions how dhikr of Allah prevents one from forgetting and also if one forgets, one should remember Allah and also dhikr of Allah gives strength to oneself as our Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam told his daughter to say subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar 33, 33, 34 times before going to bed as replacement for having a servant girl to help out in the house.

and in the second chapter shaykh mentions how sins takes away the memorization and leaving sins is a way to strengthening your memorization and keep it with you. Shaykh mentions many narrations of the salaf on it and one that is well known which is imam assafi asking imam wakee about the cure for forgetting, he said to leave off sinning as knowledge is light and it is not given to the one who is disobedient.

[it is a fact and you can test your own self, may Allah help us ameen]

then in 3rd chapter shaykh mentions how knowledge is remembered by acting on it, as knowledge calls for actions, if responded it stays, if not, it leaves one. [very true as well, you can check yourself on it as well]. shaykh mentions narrations of the salaf as to how the acted on ahadeeth they memorized and helped themselves to remember them by acting on the hadith.

in forth chapter shaykh shared, how one should not just busy oneself in writing and recording but should also memorize and also if one always memorizes regularly, then memorization becomes easy, one could memorize then in short time more materials than one could before. and this increases one's desire to memorize more.

in fifth chapter, maashaaAllah it was an amazing lesson, shaykh advised to write what we memorize more than once, and he mentioned narrations from our salaf who wrote out books of ahadeeth more than 5, 6, 7 or more times maashaaAllah. and some of the salaf, they wrote and by writing more than one they memorized what they wrote.

and in the sixth chapter, it was another amazing lesson, i wish we did like our salaf did, shaykh mentions how our salaf used to get together and review works at night and other times. shaykh categorized this reviewing,

saying it could be by ones' self or with others, and with others he divided into categories as well, from that is one: research and review, and another is: reviewing by asking and answering like our prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam used to do, he used to ask his sahabah here and there questions of aqeedah and other than it as you see in many ahadeeth.

then another way of reviewing is by asking what have you memorized from such and such author/narrator of hadith, shaykh mentioned narration from salaf how they used to do it, they used to ask each others, about hadith and then go over it and mention its fiqh rulings and its explanation.

and also reviewing by attending lessons and durus, and taking about the materials memorized.

and reviewing my oneself is by repeating what is memorized like one should be reading Qur'an so one doesn't forget as our Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam advised.

and then shaykh mentioned the importance of review and how salaf did and directed to it and mentioned the narration as to the time of the review, and said like in the morning and the night, and the quiet time.

in a narration it says, night is the best time. [also in one it says, first the pre-dawn time, middle of the night and afternoon]

and yes shaykh mentioned greatly about the importance of reviewing after fajr and warned against sleeping after it. [i wish i could do it, i really want to but everyone goes to sleep in my house after fajr prayer ah!!]

the 7th chapter: is talking about the materials memorized and shaykh showed its importance and said it is one of the best way to memorize and direct one to act upon the knowledge one memorized.

some of the salaf memorized by talking what they didn't memorize before.

our salaf were very active in reviewing and talking about the materials they memorized amongst themselves, alhamdulillah, maashaaAllah. i wish *we did it instead of chatting around but sadly, when you start talking about ilm, some people get up and leave and they get board and you hear things that only brings discouragement, discouraging one's self from seeking knowledge".*

the 8th chapter was an extraordinary one, i saw many people using it as well. Shaykh advised to connect one knowledge with another, he gave example like how some of the salaf were born in a year while others passed away on it. bringing about similarities between topics and relating it to other topics and making it easy to remember and memorize and also using like each letter of each word then making a term to memorize the big info behind each word. forgot what they call in English.

You know like in arabic you have a poem to memorize huruf as samsiyah and huruf alqamariyah, and also a word to memorize huruf almudaree' etc.

and in 9th lesson shaykh mentions to eat foods and drinks that will help in memorization and strengthen it. like: [زبيب - اللبان - شم الطيب - الحجامة - ] Raisins - Frankincense - smelling of the good - cupping - and drinking of zamzam water.

shaykh directed to a book that has this info in more detail. [ibnul qayyem said, honey is good for memory as well in book of medicine.]

and finally the 10th advice: shaykh advised for management of time and life with study, like 1 hour for hadith memorization, 1 hour for qur'an, 1 for review, one for mutun memorization etc. organizing the time and filling the time with beneficial study.

and shaykh reminded of the haidth, beloved act to allah is that which is done regularly. [may Allah aid me and all of us ameen].

and then shaykh closed the book with many advices and reminders and in this book there is mention of books that one should memorize in many field of islamic sciences and shaykh also directed to books that could help one get more advices in this matter and increase in ones zeal to memorize and work hard in seeking knowledge and memorizing. shaykh also noted some narrations as to how the salaf were in this matter in memorizing and working hard in seeking knowledge.

i hope Allah makes this review a benefit for myself and you all who stops by to read and benefit and may Allah aid us all in seeking knowledge of His deen and grant us beneficial ilm and righteous actions. ameen.

only one copy of the book is left so BUY it before it is out of stock: http://www.rimarket.net/product-p/tt0011s.htm

Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymee on Amr Khaalid.

as Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

Some quotes from Shaykh Saalih bin Sa'd as-Suhaymee hafidhahullah regarding Amr Khaled:

"I have to name an individual by name right now. This individual has put many women and youth on trial. I ask for permission to mention his name. My way is to mention a name only in emergencies. As for this man, even children are put to trial (Fitnah) because of him. He is an actor. His speeches are acts. I have a conference right now in Tabuuk, which ever book-shop I ever go to I hear the name "'Amr Khaalid, 'Amr Khaalid, 'Amr Khaalid, who is this 'Amr Khaalid? He is a DAJJAAL!"

"The filthy are many. Clowns who go out on TV are many. Their speeches look like a drama-play, they sing they act different sounds, they make the people laugh and they laugh at the people - We ask Allaah for forgiveness and healthiness"

"Alas, most people only care about the persons popularity. That he is popular amongst the Juhaal is what spreads his Bid'ah. This man is a clown because of several reasons."

"I say without any problems at all, while I am in one of Allaah's houses and getting closer to Allaah with these words; These people (i.e. Amr Khaaled, Taariq as-Suwaydaan etc) are closer to being clowns than callers to Islam."
