Nifaq is of 2 types:
1. nifaq [hypocrisy] of belief
2. nifaq of action
1. nifaq of belief: it is to outwardly demonstrate Islaam whilst inwardly there is kufr [disbelief]. The individual who practices this type is a muslim outwardly and a kafir and zindeeq [heretic] inwardly and when he dies he is in the lowest depths of the fire. as Alla said, "Verily, the hyprocrites will be in the lowest depths (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them." (An-Nisa 4:145) "Except those who repent (from hypocrisy), do righteous good deeds, hold fast to Allâh, and purify their religion for Allâh (by worshipping none but Allâh, and do good for Allâh's sake only, not to show-off), then they will be with the believers. And Allâh will grant to the believers a great reward." (An-Nisa 4:146)

The excellence of the prayer and its wiping away of sins and evil deeds
From Aboo Hurairah radi allahu anhu who said that i heard Allah's Messenger sallallahu alayhe wa sallam say: do you think that if there was a river at the door of one of you and he bathed in it five times a day, would any dirt remain upon him? they said, no dirt would remain upon him. He said, that is how it is with the five daily prayers, through them Allah washes away the sins." [al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Aboo Huraira radi allahu anhu, also narrates that Allah's Messenger sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said, the five daily prayers, and the Jumu'ah to the Jumu'ah are an expiation for what is between them, as long as one is not guilty of major-sins. [Muslim]
From Uthmaan radi allahu anhu, who said that Allah's Messenger sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said, there is no muslim upon whom the obligatory prayer becomes due, so he perfects the wudhu, humility and attentiveness [khushu] and the bowing [ruku] except that it is an expiation of the sins that is coming before it as long as he does not commit major sins. This applies all the time. [Muslim]
