But what does he think, he wants to attack us muslims, lower our religion down in front of class of non-muslims, and i will keep my mouth shut. I did my best in the class, rest upon Allah, He will take care of it, now that final is there to finish, make dua please. I feel like i could have gotten more than 80 in my essay, but he kept it to that grade despite the fact he had no comment to say i left out anything, but alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal.

To Die in Jerusalem examines the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the eyes of two mothers who have lost their daughters in one deadly act of violence. Two girls—Rachel Levy, a seventeen-year-old Israeli student, and Ayat al-Akhras, an eighteen-year-old Palestinian student/suicide bomber—died together in a Jerusalem market in March 2002.
The horrific incident ignited international outrage, and set in motion a quest on the part of Rachel’s mother, Avigail Levy, to arrange a one-on-one meeting with her counterpart, Um Samir. More than four years later, the mothers of the two dead girls face each other in an emotionally charged meeting that underscores the tension and resentments persisting between Israelis and Palestinians.
By contrasting the lives and deaths of these two teenage girls, the documentary offers the very personal perspectives that too often disappear behind political issues as viewed by the media and the larger world. The film explores both al-Akhras’ motivations and ideology, and the events that led her to sacrifice her life; and the world of Levy, who paid with her life when she was caught in the middle of an age-old conflict during her daily routine. The film’s glimpse into each young woman’s world seeks to enhance the viewer’s understanding of the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, while opening a window into the lives of these tragic families as they cope with their pain.
Nothing about this film is simple or clear. While one girl’s death was, in a sense, chosen, the other’s was a twist of fate or tragic destiny—yet both are victims of one of the longest, most complicated, and disturbing conflicts of our time. To Die in Jerusalem doesn’t suggest a solution to the conflict, but explores the difficulties, fears, and gaps between opposing sides. This documentary explores—through the two families’ personal losses and Avigail Levy’s search for answers—the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the mutual pain experienced despite cultural differences and diverse perceptions of death, and the persistent, fragile hope for peace.
