Imam al-Jazari’s praise for the Qur’an bearer Taken from the Muqaddimah of ‘Tayyibat al-Nashr.’ A person is not honoured or raised Except by what he knows and has memorised For that reason the bearers of Qur’an Are the nobles of this Ummah and its righteous And they are the people of Allah amongst Mankind * And indeed our Lord has boasted of them He spoke of them in the Qur’an, and it is sufficient That He gives it (the Qur’an) to those He has chosen ** وهو في الأخرى شافع مشفع *** فيه وفوله عليه يسمع And in the Hereafter, it is an ardent intercessor And its statement is something surely heard By it a person is given the dominion and immortality And likewise, he is given the crown of honour He’ll read and ascend the ranks of Paradise by it And his parents will also be clothed by it *** فليحرص السعيد في تحصيله *** ولا يمل قط من ترتيله So let a person strive to attain it And let him never tire of its recitation. ____ * Due to the hadith: ‘Indeed Allah has people from amongst Mankind. The people of Qur’an, they are the people of Allah and His Specialties.’ [Ahmad, Ibn Majah] ** Due to the verse in Soorah Fatir: ثُمَّ أَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتَابَ الَّذِينَ اصْطَفَيْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا فَمِنْهُمْ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِ وَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ وَمِنْهُمْ سَابِقٌ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَضْلُ الْكَبِيرُ “Then We gave the Book for inheritance to such of Our slaves whom We chose…” [Fatir: 32] *** Due to the hadith: ‘The Qur’aan will meet its companion on the Day of Resurrection when his grave is opened for him, in the form of a pale man. It will say to him, ‘Do you recognize me?’ He will say: ‘I do not recognize you.’ It will say: ‘I am your companion the Qur’aan, who kept you thirsty on hot days and kept you awake at night. Every merchant benefits from his business and today you will benefit from your good deeds.’ He will be given dominion in his right hand and eternity in his left, and there will be placed on his head a crown of dignity, and his parents will be clothed with priceless garments the like of which have never been seen in this world. They will say: ‘Why have we been clothed with this?’ It will be said: ‘Because your son used to recite Qur’aan.’ Then it will be said to him: ‘Recite and ascend in the degrees of Paradise,’ and he will continue to ascend so long as he recites, either at a fast pace or a slow pace.’ [Ahmad, Ibn Majah]

You Want Greatness, Honour, Glory? Then do this

Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said, “Every description of glory and greatness and honour ascribed to the Quraanevery descriptionis also for the person who learns it.  So whoever wants greatness then it is upon him to learn what is in the Quraan.  And whoever wants honour in his speech, his wealth, his status, then it is upon him to learn what is in the Quraan. ”
Bukugh al-Maraam, vol. 5, p. 40.

Some Narrations Regarding Reading the Qur’aan & Reflecting upon it

Some Narrations Regarding Reading the Qur’aan
& Reflecting upon it
        Translated by
Abbas Abu Yahya

1 – From Anas bin Malik -Radi Allaahu anhu- who said:
‘The wife of Uthmaan bin ‘Affan -Radi Allaahu anhu- said when they killed him: ‘You have killed him, while he was spending the night awake with the Qur’aan.’
[al-Hileeyah]

2 – From Nafa’ that it was asked to him: what would Ibn Umar -Radi Allaahu anhu- do in his home?
He answered:
‘You would not be able to bear what he would do, he would make Wudu for every prayer, and he would read the Qur’aan during the times between the prayers.’
[Tabaqaat Ibn Sa’d]

3 – From Nafa’ who said: When Abdullaah ibn Umar -Radi Allaahu anhu- would recite this Ayaah:
<<۞أَلَمۡ يَأۡنِ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَن تَخۡشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمۡ لِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ >>
<< Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allaah >> he would begin to cry and would be overcome by crying.’
[al-Musanaf]
4 – Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood -Radi Allaahu anhu- said:
‘Indeed these hearts are vessels, so busy them with the Qur’aan, and do not busy them with other things.
[al-Musanaf]
5 – From Ibn ‘Abbas -Radi Allaahu anhu:
‘Allaah guaranteed for the one who follows the Qur’aan that he will not be misguided in the Dunyaa, nor will he be miserable in the Hereafter, then he would recite:
<<فَإِمَّا يَأۡتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّي هُدٗى فَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشۡقَىٰ>>
<< whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]. >>
[al-Musanaf]
6 – From Nafa’ who said:
Ibn Umar -Radi Allaahu anhu- used to recite in his prayer and if he passed an Ayaah which mentioned Paradise he would stop and ask Allaah for Paradise and he would supplicate and cry. And if he passed by an Ayaah which mention the Hell-Fire he would stop, supplicate and seek Allaah’s forgiveness.’
[‘Zuhud’ by Ahmad]
7 – From Nafa’ who said:
‘Ibn Umar never ever read these two Ayaat from the last part of Soorah Baqarah except that he would cry:
<<وَإِن تُبۡدُواْ مَا فِيٓ أَنفُسِكُمۡ أَوۡ تُخۡفُوهُ يُحَاسِبۡكُم بِهِ ٱللَّهُۖ>>
<> then he would say: ‘Indeed this is a severe level of accountability.’
[al-Hileeyah]
8 – From Ibn Mas’ood -Radi Allaahu anhu- who said:
‘Be continuous in looking into the Mus’haf (the Qur’aan).’
[Shua’b al-Eemaan]
9 – From Yunus bin Jubayr who said:
‘Jundub accompanied us until we reached the edge of the town and we said, advise us.’
He said:
‘I advise you to have fear of Allaah and I advise you with the Qur’aan, since it is light on a dark night, and the brightness of the day.’
[Shua’b al-Eemaan]

Is a woman allowed to read Qur’aan during her period?
The scholars have differed on this issue.
The majority say that she should not read Qur’aan. And this is the math-hab of Imaam Ahmad, whereas other scholars say she should indeed read Qur’aan since there is no authentic evidence showing it isn’t allowed. Also the recitation of the Qur’aan is in itself recommended.
However one should follow a middle path (due to her state of impurity) and recite the Qur’aan if there is a real need, like for an example if she is afraid she might forget it or she might be teaching it to others or just studying it, reading du’aas from it etc. If she does not need to read it then she should settle for general dhikr instead of the Qur’aan in order to be free from the dispute.
And this is the opinion that is closest to the truth, i.e. that she reads it only if there is a real need for it and not otherwise.

My dear sisters in faith who I love for the sake of Allah,

I ask Allah to elevate you all with the Quran in this world and the hereafter.

This is a brief reminder/advice regarding memorising the Noble words of
our Lord.

To make your dream come true in memorising the Quran take the necessary
causes by learning from  a qualified teacher or enrolling in a  reputable local
Quran school so you can be corrected on your recitation mistakes so you do
not memoirse the Quran with mistakes and  read the words of Allah wrong.

To the noble Quran students at the Institute the Quran needs your time and
devotion so create a timetable and organise your life and responsibilites and give
up un-necassary acts which you do and decrease your time in socializing and
actions which waist your time. Allocate  a time daily to memorizing and listening
to the Quran as well as a seperate daily to review past memorisation outside of
class time, for example: morning memorise and evening allocated to review
past memorisation., you can also review during your sunnah prayers recite the surahs your memorisd in your prayer, doing this consistanl; do not let a day go by without reviewing yourpast memorisation. I stress you should not only review in class, you have to allocate time outside of class for reviewing so the memorisation does not gather upon you and forget the past parts
you have memorised. You teachers guide you in class but this is a reminder.

During your journey in memorising the Quran hold tight onto the rope of
patience because knowledge does not come over a period of day or night or
weeks and stay positive and beware of the whispers of the Shaytaan because He
will always try to divert you from the words of your Lord as only goodness will
happen to you by learning the Quraan and the shaytaan  can not bare the Quran!
Reciting the Quran will divert the shaytaan and evil away from you.

Always renew your intention, why am I learning the Quran? why do I want to
memorise it? Remember you are doing this to elevate your status in Jannah and
to gather good deeds to put on your good scales on the day of Judjement and
that you want to learn to recite the Quran the way it was revealed following the way of the Messenger peace be upon him and that you want to serve Allah's
Religion by teaching it once you have learned.

Increase in supplication when you find it challenging, it will be at start! the shaytaan will be at an inner war with you but after being persistent and dua he will leave you and you will find it easy.

Easy!! you may ask? Yes, easy my noble sister in faith.

Remember Allah's promise that He made this Quran easy to remember, He said:

" And we have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there anyone who will remember (or receive admonition)? Surah Al-Qamar Verse 17

So whoever finds it hard, then they must search within themselves and look at
any sins they must be doing and try and stop doing them because sins weaken
memory and also prevent us from gaining the blessings of our Lord as the
scholars explained. Focus always on strengthening your sincerity.

Strive  more daily  the verses of Allah will not be poured into you, you have to
allocate time daily and be perissant in memorising and reviewing. the more you
review the pages the more strong your memorisation will be stronger by the
permission of Allah.

Read tafseer explanation of the Quran. Before memorising the page read the
explanation of the verses on that page and keep a note book specifically for that
and write in summary the meaning of the verses and beneficial points so you
memorise with understand. There is the explanation of Ib Katheer and available
in English. I recommend this greatly. This will enable you to memorise and at
the same time you will seek more knowledge and understand the words of your
Lord aswell as memorising.

Do all this whilst relying in Allah for aid and success and ease because Allah
does not break His promise He made this Quran easy to remember! we just
have to work on our sincerity!

Remember my dear sisters in faith nothing in life comes easy! Instead on focusing on negativeness be positive ad focus on the reward you are piling by reciting every letter! take day by day, do not keep flicking through the pages int he rest of the Quran you have left to memorise. You may think how can I do this! But you will reach that day and join the family of the Quran who have memorised the book of Allah. Just take day by day and focus on the very pages
you have to memorise and try to forget about tomorrow. What guarantees us we will see the sun rise tomorrow. Just focus on doing as much good as you can in your day and if you live to see tomorrow you will  do what Allah has decreed for you. This is from the reasons why people lead to stress in general
and depression! worry too much about the future in this world in regards to
wealth, health family! Insead of putting their energy in taking the necessary
cause to deal with their affairs and relying and putting their trust in Allah the
All-mighty who is aware of their situation and the disposer of the affairs who
never sleeps or eats or gets tired.

So take day by day in all that you do, this does not mean you do not plan for
your future. You do, but just not be attached to your plans and attach your
heart to Allah. This is how the Messenger peace be upon him lived his life, like
everyday was his last. If we knew that today was our last day we would fill our
time with what is pleaseing to our Lord and feared Him in everything we do;
towards our spouse, children, parents, friends, neighbours and our hearts
would be lest attached to this deceiving world and more attached to what Allah has installed for us! May Allah attach our hearts to Him!

If we only turned more to Allah & His messenger peace be upon him  for
guidance in all aspects of our life we would live happy and peaceful during our
journey in this short world.

Truly if we are not patient in getting closer to Allah and worshiping Him and
learning His religion  we will have to be patient  in being ignorant and sinning.
Like one of the Salaf said: "The soul is a dosobeyer and sinner if you do not
busy her with obedience(to Allah) it will busy you with sin!" Memorising and
teaching the Quran and seeking knowledge in general will protect you from
sinning as you will have no time remaining after devoting the time to the Quran.

Look at the people of sins and dunya  how they are patient upon committing sin, for en example sitting long ours watching films which do nor make them
rich or benefit them! and spending ours to listening to music! the speech of man
and instruments of shaytaan? without complaining or saying it is difficult to
memorise the singers words!

How is that we spend so much time on socialising and on unnecessary speech
daily with friends and family either directly or online  and reading the news or
articals and books without questioning the amount of time we spend on doing
this or getting inpatient from hours of in-beneficial speech.

But when it comes to the speech of our Lord we make hundred of excuses to
not listen or read it in our daily lives and memorise it and follow its teachings
and it is for our own benefit to strengthen our eeman and gather much rewards.

We can find time for the dunya and worldly knowledge but when it comes to the Quran committing 3-5 hours too much to commit to Quran, however when in academic school, college, university you have to spend 6-8hrs daily of onsite
commitment then commitment outside of school on homework, essays
preparation of exams and for the book of Allah we question the time that we
have to allocate to it and become busy and our schedule becomes full of
commitments and not willing to make sacrifices, but for the Dunya to get a
worldly certificate willing to sacrifice days and nights for years of your life to get a better position in this world. But how about your postiion in Jannah? Your
eternal home, have you not though of ways how you can elevate
your position there?

Memorisin the Quran will take you to a better position in Jannah. As you know
in the Hadeeth sahih the person who memorised the Quran in this world and
(acted upon it) will be asked to recite from ememory as he recites from memory
he keeps raising in Jannah!! to a better place and he/she stops at the place they
stopped in their memorisation. This is the great benefit and purpose of
memorising the Quran. Memorising the Quran is your elevator in Jannah! So
why not get on the elevator whilst the door is open for you?

This is indeed from the shaytaan to divert us from the words of Allah and also due to our lack of sincerity like Shaikh AlBaani said the reason why a few memorise the Quran is due to lack of sincerity in seeking knowledge.

This Quran is the last revelation we have and our path to Jannahl our salvation.
We should take all the necessary means to learn, understand and apply it in our daily lives and spread its teachings.

We should try more in following the footsteps of the Messenger peace be upon him who is wife Aaisha (may Allah be pleased with her ) said in sahih Hadeeth narrated in Bukhari "His character was the Quran"

May Allah make the Quran our Aqeedah & Character! may Allah strengthen our eeman for indeed we are weak without Him. May not make this temporary world a distraction from working towards the eternal life.

There is a Quran software to use for practicing on Quran outside of lesson time for reviewing and listening to better their recitation. I advice the Quran students to used both these tools during their Quranic studies:
http://quran.ksu.edu.sa
It has a memorisation assessment tool where you can select what section from the Noble Quran you want to memorise or review memorisation. You then click on 'question' and  it selects for you one  verse from the page and makes the rest of the page blank and then you have to complete from your memory, if you forget whilst memorising you place your mouse on the page and different verses will show on the page to help you remember, I advice that you record yourself on your computer or recorder or tape whilst doing this. When you finish reviewing the page it has an option 'answer' when clicking on it the whole page of the Quran will show so you can read if you memorised correctly. If you recorded yourself you can play back and check and I advice to keep a note book for your memorisation and the section you hear yourself finding difficulty in remembering write the verse down so you know where your weakness is in the page and can focus on reviewing it. The method on the software is the same method Quran teachers use to test Quran students on their memorisation its a method which aids the strengthening of the memorisation of the Quran by the permission of Allah.
There is also another  very beneficial software called Quran Tracker in the English Language from another site:
http://www.qurantracker.com/
Which aims by the permission of Allah to act as a mean to aid one's Quran studies by way of keeping track of one's memorisation and revision, the format of the software allows you plan your memorisation and revision, students at the Institue should only follow the amount of memorisation allocated by the Institute in your lesson by your Quran teachers. The software also gives you choice of different reciters to listen to. I  advise students to use this software for their Quran studies and direct you to only listen to Shaikh Husri or Shaikh Minshawi  (May Allah have mercy upon them both) as their recitation is very clear and are from the Quran Scholars whose recitation are the closest in accuracy to the recitation of the Prophet peace be upon him.

(Please note I do NOT give reference or recommend the Islamic knowledge which they may send on their site or  promote on external social links on their website, my recommendation is for the beneficial Quran tracker tool/software only)  May Allah reward them for this great service to the Muslims.

May Allah grant you all aid and success in memorising His words and grant us the understanding of the Quran. May Allah grant us sincerity in learning His Book and spreading it so His speech can be the highest of speech. May Allah make the Quran a cause of bringing us closer to our Lord and entering into Jannah.
May Allah make the Quran the Joy of our hearts and the healing of our pain and sorrow.

"O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (Qur'aan) enjoining all that is good and forbidding all that is evil and a healing for that which is in your breasts, a guidance and a mercy for the believers." (Soorah Yunus: 57)
I hope in Allah this little advice/direction has helped the students in their goal in
memorising the Noble Quran.

the mercy of her Lord:

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said:
"The abandonment of the Qur'aan is of different categories.
One of them: Abandoning listening to it, believing in it and paying attention to it.
The Second: Abandoning acting in accordance to it, not stopping at its permissible and prohibited matters. This is the case even if the person reads it and believes in it.
The Third: Abandoning judging by it and returning back to it for judgement in the fundamentals of the religion as well as the branches. Believing that it doesn't benefit certainty, its evidences are verbal and that it doesn't bring about the attainment of knowledge.
The Fourth: Abandoning contemplating over it, understanding it and knowing what the one who spoke with it intending.
The Fifth: Abandoning seeking a cure and treating oneself with it for all of the sicknesses of the hearts and its ailments. Rather the person seeks a remedy for his sickness from other than it and abandons the treating of himself with it.
All of this enters under the statement of Allaah:
"And the Messenger said: Oh my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'aan as something (they have) abandoned." (Soorah al-Furqaan: 30)

Students of Knowledge not Memorising the Quraan–Why?

by Ahmed Abu Turaab
Translated by Ahmed Abu Turaab
Questioner: One of the other things I noted about this good, alhamdulillaah, [Islamic] awakening, and this interest in knowledge is that [unfortunately] the proportion [of people] turning towards memorising the Book of Allaah and also lessons [where] tafseer is [studied] is very low.
Al-Albaani: [Something] very rare [indeed].
Questioner: If not non-existent, what do you think?
Al-Albaani: This is what I have [previously] mentioned in some gatherings.  O brothers, I want to see one of you who has memorised the Quraan. Such that when I, for example, need an aayah and am not able to recall it then I can get help from some of you.
Those who memorise the Quraan are not found except for the very few. And the cause centres entirely around the fact that seeking knowledge today is not done sincerely for the Face of Allaah. This is a calamity.
Questioner: Part of that too are lessons in tafseer, now in Riyadh we have [only] a very limited number of lessons in tafseer.
Al-Albaani: Sorry?
Questioner: I was saying that …
Al-Albaani: Nowadays it is [as though it is] the turn of the study of the science of hadith and that’s it.
Questioner: Yes.
Al-Albaani: And the reason is very clear: it is the lack of sincerity in seeking knowledge for Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic.

Sighing while listening to the Qur’aan or other than it has a number of causes:
One: if while listening to the Qur’aan a person experiences a new degree that he never did before within himself and becomes scared, this happens to him. This is a sign of longing to have this degree.
Two: if a sin is mentioned that he committed, he sighs out of fear and sadness. This is a sigh of fear.
Three: if a fault or weakness is mentioned which he cannot stop or control, it will cause him sadness. His is a sigh of sadness.
Four: when he perceives the perfection of his Lord and discovers that the way to Him is closed. This is a sigh of sadness and grief.
Five: if he forgets His Lord and is busy with other than Him and this recitation reminds him of his Lord and outlines the way to Him clearly and openly, this is a sign of joy and happiness.
Anyway, the cause of sighing is the strength and significance of the event in comparison with the weakness of the person and his ability to bear it or overcome it, along with the power of the event when it happens inside of him. If he shows it on his face, it would cause the effect to be weak and would bring about its end. This is the sigh, which comes from the true servant. The one who tastes that is either truthful, a thief or a hypocrite.

The Qur’aan Comes First

Author: The Grand Mufti Shaikh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez Aalish Shaikh (HafithahuAllah)
Source: www.Sahab.net
Translator: Abu ‘Abdis Salaam Siddiq Al Juyaanee

Q: How can we combine between memorizing the Noble Qur’an and seeking
knowledge?

A: Start with the Qur’an, reading it and perfecting its recitation. If you accomplish
this –may Allah aid you in seeking knowledge- this is a great bounty from Allah upon
you. The Qur’an will be ease for the one who (sincerely) wants it, for verily, Allah
the Most High says,

“And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember,
then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)?” [Al-Qamar: 17]

The Qur’an is the key to every (Islaamic) science. Your perfection of its recitation
and memorizing it will open up for you areas of knowledge that only Allah knows
(best to what extent will benefit you).
The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said:

"The Best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it"

The Scholar Al-Baani (may Allah have mercy upon him said) in his notes under this hadeeth in silsilah as-Saheeha 1173:

And in this Hadeeth is: a direction into learning The Quran, and that the best knowledge that a person can learn is learning the Quran.

So how wishful it is that the students of knowledge would realize that. Because in it, is great benefit.

And fom the calamities that have hit our era is that you find many of the callers or the beginners amongst  the students  of knowledge going into giving fatwa's (Islamic verdicts) and answering questions of people;  while he hasn't even made good his recitation of Suratul Faatiha from its proper recitation...'

Up to where he said..

'..so advice to myself and then to them is that; the best of what a student of knowledge begins on is memorising The Quran'
